I responded to a thread about Shimming Blades while using the Hawk. Is this a thing with modern razors? I thought it was to compensate for thin modern SS blades in a vintage razor designed for carbon steel blades.

Shimming "New" (As in anything designed post 1930) razors?
This is the same shave-voodoo as blooming, is it not?...... :scared003:

Wow!!! Stunning shot Jim! I bet the difference in the shave was just fine tuning the angle.
    Great shave Terry!
    Fantastic photo Perry!
    Awesome photo Jim!
You get some great mileage out of your blades Matthew! Great shaves!
Sorry for the nicks Daniel, a little more time and practice and those will go away completely!
Beautiful photo Clint! That bowl is drop dead gorgeous!
Wonderful shave Jason! It's easy to get a little too close with a MMOC.
    Fantastic setup, Gary!
Awesome shave Joseph! I'm keeping my eyes peeled for the big reveal of the soap manufacturer!

Thanks Jason! Like many soaps (too many to try them all) it does the job of lathering well. The "barbershop" is different, but as the day unfolded so did the scent.

Apologies for the comments I missed from the last couple days. Switching back and forth from computer browser to Tapatalk on the phone makes me loose my place in the thread.

It's been a busy time here lately. My mother was released from the hospital after an extended stay. She went from a cough and upper respiratory discomfort to dehydration, lethargy, and confusion. Couple days of IV, antibiotics, and a couple dialysis treatments cleared her of what ever infection she was not fighting effectively at home. She's currently in a Nursing Home undergoing physical therapy to get back on her feet. Being ambulatory and regaining her presence of mind are the targeted goals right now. Dad is maintaining, visiting her most every day. I have to keep an eye on him, too. His mother dealt with Alzheimer's/dementia in her last dozen years. With the grandkids in school and my daughter starting a new 9-5 job my days are full, but I'm becoming caretaker for my parents, too.

Take care of yourself and the Mrs Neal @NCoxSTL. Very aware of your current situation Danny @Hembree. Living the chaos like you Terry @Terry.

I actually nicked myself on the neck, usually i don't get nicks there. Maybe i need to drink a few more cups of coffee, as a pre-shave?

    Stirling Mentholated Pre-Shave Soap
    Blackland Sabre L2
    Gem Stainless PTFE(?+1)
    Stirling Boar (24mm, Frigate Class)
    Stirling Sandpiper soap
    A&E Grecian Horse AS

I have been eagerly anticipating finally being able to get back to this razor. Loaded it up with a previously used Gem Stainless PTFE blade and set to work on building a bowl full of shiny slick Stirling lather. Painted the lather on and put blade to face. I don't remember how long it's been since I've shaved with a Gem blade but the whiskers just disappeared after each silky smooth stroke. Three passes and the baby was easily caught. Since I don't have the matching Sandpiper AS I used A&E Grecian Horse which pairs nicely with the Sandpiper. Got a comment from my wife that I smelled really good as we were walking out of the house this morning. Have a great day my friends!

Terrific shave, Andrew. I need to get a couple more shaves in with the Sabre before months end.
