As the 30DCr motto goes, TTT, but applied to honing. :) Keep at it if you want to hone your razors. It'll come around. Honing is another zen like activity similar to all things wet shaving.

Or, you can send straights out to Pros....could get pricey. Sounds like experienced honers are offering to hone. Either is awesome. With the right technique, and a fresh edge, you should be able to maintain that edge 70+ shaves with ~$60 worth of investment, and no honing of your own. Read on.....

Here is a very useful TSD thread with the hone masters conversing. I found it while researching my 'finishing' technique for smooth shaving edges (vs. just sharp). I started this research right after getting my Friodur back from Glen. Besides the awesome job on the scales, the Friodur shaved super buttery smooth, and I wanted to duplicate that for my other razors. He and I traded a couple PMs, and I went to reading.

Polishing Powders For Honing In this thread, @gssixgun links to an experiment he did ten years ago in 2009(!), and maintained a freshly honed edge for 70+ shaves before giving up. SRP - Pasted Strops 'The Experiment' by Gssixgun

These two posts, along with the YT videos of the hone meisters previously mentioned have been a tremendous help for my straight razor honing technique, and provided the path to my current setup. Still completely a novice with straight razor honing. I'll be very happy if I can duplicate even 50+ shaves of each of my straights/kamis between honing sessions. That gets me to only honing once or twice a year with rotation.

Okay I make 2 cups at a time in a small mug. 3 scoops of grounds, full to the brim with water at about 190f, 60 sec, dilute at about 50% in the BIG mug.

Always keep the hot water on in the morning.

Took a hot shower and did a two pass shave after that. Or actually, it was a 2.5 pass shave. The blade wasn't cutting efficiently in any angle i tried, so i decided to replace it and started over. After that everything went well.

It's a beef tallow soap, but it does have lanolin...
My thought, too. I reserve the right to toss in another product on a whim.
It's going to be grand! Do you foresee the factions yet?

I'm a three and out on de blades. I found for me the fourth outing with a blade starts getting tuggy with most brands.

No hurries. It's a good soap, but it's light on the scent. All these old guys use it for the post shave feel. You are young enough that you don't need to rejuvenate. I'm curious which post shave products will go with it. Guessing "ALL".

That's one thing I'm looking forward to - using some aftershaves that haven't been used much. The soap scent washes away cleanly and sets the stage for whatever fragrance you'd like.

Situational Awareness. While removing a purple glass coffee mug from the microwave I moved laterally but didn't gain altitude. Wacked the upcurved edge of the rotating glass tray. The favored mug survived unscathed, but I chipped the edge of the 'wave tray. Shopping up a thermo-insulated coffee carafe will keep me from doing that again.
Dad used an old aluminum percolator for decades. He got upset when I cleaned it out one time. Guess he liked that residue. I'm curious about the part of the Bonavita where the water sets prior to brewing. Easy to clean? Standard cheap machines don't give easy access to the reservoir. Separating the basket from the holding tank looks good.
With a "12 cup" pot I tend to brew 8 cups (4 mugs or so) so it should serve me well.
Between the two Black & Decker or Bosch - the latter are better tools. With corporate takeovers it's getting difficult to keep score.

That price point may be what helped me choose my B&D unit. Tuesday Morning or Walmart, I forget.
Since the new version with the hanging basket is out I just may go that way. Keep it simple.
