I checked 'em out, Bill. Looks like a great tool. I love the simplicity of it as well.

My Dad used to add Maxwell House to cold tap water and bring it to a rolling boil on our gas stove. His camp style pot never got washed out. It would ruin the taste. That coffee had legs, arms, and every other appendage you could imagine. You could even chew the grounds in your cup if that was your thing. My Dad learned how to make Army coffee during the "Big One." I'd give anything to share a cup with him today. Then we'd go out for rolled or pan fried oysters and a beer.

I've taken the Bonavita apart once to clean it, Rick. The top pops off easily so that you can reach in and wipe out the fresh water tank. In fact, all the plastic doo dads on top come apart for easy cleaning. This gal is my resource on all things related to coffee makers:

See my comment above, Terry. You would have liked my Dad's coffee. The first time we gave him a cup from our Mr. Coffee maker, he didn't believe it was coffee.

Lest you troublemakers think I've fallen off the wagon, we're having ham, bean and collard stew for lunch (low cal / good nutrition recipe). I'll also have an avocado, grapes, and a sugar-free drink. My Bride, with her blast furnace metabolism, opted to cook fresh corn bread for herself. I meet a friend tonight, and I suggested we go for Thai food (low cal) and then for a long walk in a city park.

To continue with my health kick theme, we picked up our weekly share of fresh veggies from the community garden and got our flu shots today.

I have hopes that my buddy will want to search out some desert after tonight's Thai food. He usually does when we get together.

Jumping on the Piacenza bandwagon with a sample that keeps on giving, a brush from The Traveling Box (Round Three may still have openings), and lather whipped up in a textured ceramic bowl. Touted as "aggressive" this three piece DE is surely efficient. I didn't even check to see what blade was installed but it's easy to see one's in there. Three and a half passes, no nicks, smooth as I hope for. Recently restocked the alum with a cased applicator from RazoRock and my skin gave no great complaint so the Techniques worked well. Refilled the vintage glass bottle with new juice, and splashed on a goodly amount. Soon to be headed out - pick up a grand daughter for an after lunch dentist visit.

I use a yellow legal pad for work stuff. Make lists, takes notes, etc all on the pad. I never fully converted to the digital way for those tasks. My colleagues make fun of me and say I'm antiquated, but it works for me and I don't see a need to change.

Tomorrow morning i will be heading to the city of Loviisa for the weekend. Just in case, i will take this setup with me, but i'm not sure if i'll actually use it. It's good to be somewhat prepared anyways.

 

Ha, i don't even have a smartphone. Or i do, but it decided to break, so i bought a very cheap Nokia 216. Works well enough for me. I use a notebook and sticky notes if i need to type something down

I love cornbread, Terry, but I passed on it today. One piece would have been OK, but I can't stop there...so I don't start. My Bride makes great cornbread too. That's my story with doughnuts too.

 

Well....
It makes somthing like you get at a drive thru window.
My grandfather used 10 scoops of coffee to make a half a pot in the drip machine.
He said it was the best he could do, not being able to make it on his own anymore. It was hard for him to get around. I thought that was strong coffee, till my uncle came down and made him a pot. Now that's a cup of coffee, said grandpa.

Take 3 or 4 heaping teaspoons full of fine ground coffee put it in a 2 cup measuring cup. Pour boling hot water in till it's about 1 1/2 cup mark. Stir a miniute, then strain through a filter into your cup.
Granfathers instant coffee.
I still make it that way today.

I have an old iron skillet I use for my cornbread, it was grandmothers.
Love it, some butter and beans with it...

If we ever have a chance to meet in person, Terry, I'd like to share a cup of that recipe with you. We'll raise our cups to your Grandpa & Uncle, and my Dad.

We stayed with a Canadian farm family many years ago. That's kinda how they made coffee too, and the party there started around 4:30 every morning. They's let the coffee pot cook on the stove while they tended to the cows in the barn. I drank plenty of it while I was there. They also had ice cream in the fridge.

 

We'll have all that too along with Grandpa's coffee when we meet. Yum!

We've got some 50 and 100-year old family iron skillets too. They make the best...anything.
