    If I marry a woman who loves clove-scented soap or A.S., I'm a goner.

    SOTD SUNDAY, MAY 31, 2020

Today marks the fourth shave with the new-to-me SS Supply V2 razor, and my final shave of the month. Although I usually like Schick B-20 Prolines in my injectors, I’m now on my third shave with a modified AC blade, a Feather Super in it. And to tell the truth, the prior two shaves with it have been spectacular. I’m really growing to like this razor as a head shaver, and the face shaves are every bit as good. If I weren’t such a creature of habit, I could get away with shaving every other day with this gear. I just enjoy shaving too much to ever do so.

For today’s shave I selected the special synth knot ferrule for my Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute brush. It should probably be renamed as the Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute Handle, as I have four different knot ferrules for it - a 24mm Synth used this morning, a 26mm Boar used yesterday, a 26mm Two Band Badger and a 24mm Hybrid Badger Boar. It’s like having 4 brushes in one. Software consisted of Stirling Glacial Obsidian Soap enhanced with 3 drops of M-Bomb along with its matching AS Splash.

The shave began with my usual cold water rinse following an early shower. The Synth knot ferrule on the Alpha Shaving handle whipped up a thick, glistening and slick lather from the Glacial Obsidian soap generating a delightful anise scent that brought back pleasant childhood memories of my Italian grandmother’s fresh anisette cookies. The Supply razor’s modified Feather Super blade swept away the minimal stubble remaining from yesterday’s shave with its usual aplomb. One pass (ATG) was all it took along with some selective buffing to return me to velveteen cue ball smoothness. I feel clean, cool, velveteen smooth and pleasantly refreshed.

    RAZOR: SS Supply V2
BLADE: Modified AC Feather Super (3)
    PREP: Cold water rinse
BRUSH: Alpha Shaving T-400 Tribute w/ 24mm Synth knot ferrule
SOAP: Stirling Glacial Obsidian enhanced w/ 3 drops of M-Bomb
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with Glyce Glycerin soap followed by Humphrey’s Lilac WH and Glacial Obsidian AS Splash

Terrific shave and report, Jeff! Cool brush! I have the PAA Switchback with three ferrules. I'd like to get a fourth to load a synthetic in.

The heck with the shave! I prefer the anisette cookie story! Lol! Have a wonderful Sunday Jeff! Now, I think you enabled me to buy Stella Doro anisette toast.

    Razor: Supply Co V2 ••
    Blade: Schick Proline B20 (5)
Brush: Heritage Collection dubl duck/Heritage Gel boar
    Pre-shave: PAA The Cube
    Soap: CF Santa Paula
    Stirling Orange Chill witch hazel
    Stirling mentholated balm
    AS: CF Santa Paula

    Sample Sunday

    Good morning!

Excellent shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Nearly silent alum.

New brush in the den, Heritage Collection dubl duck with a Gel Boar knot. Love everything about this brush. The size, the shape and the knot. The knot went through a gel process that makes this feel completely broken in. Super soft tips with no scratch at all.

Chiseled Face Santa Paula sample today. I don't care for this one. It's citrus but there's a bitterness to it I don't like at all.

    Have a great day!

Great set up! Applying the soap directly to the face is most definitely the easiest/fastest way to face lather. Old deodorant containers make great shave sticks--if you don't readily have one on hand, you can get a sacrificial stick on the cheap at a Dollar Store :D

I’m waiting on some of the PAA ferrules to be in stock so I can do much the same! Looks like they’re on order...back order for a couple months. :(

    Good morning guys!

    Straight razor shave # 172

    Dovo Special 5/8 Round Pt
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
    CF Cryogen SS and AS

As promised, I wanted to end this month with a bang by using a razor that I set a bevel for my very first time and of course, using the reknown face freezing Cryogen soap.

Cryogen is a very thirsty soap, but once you get the right mix; it gives a great lather. Ok, so how did I do with the honing job. It was barely shave ready because I needed 3 passes to get an IBSS - shave. It was a rough shave for me. I also nicked my lower neck. Obviously, this wasn't what I expected. So, I decided to go back to the films and redo the edge. I originally used the 15 micron bevel setter, then 9, 5, 3, 1 and .3 microns. Since the bevel was set, I did not go to 9, but started at 5 and then finished through the rest of the progression. Relathered my face and what a difference. The razor was able to get the short stubble that was missed and I was able to do a Fool's Pass as well. So, I ended with my usual IBSS++, but it took me 4 passes to do it, instead of 2. However, I will use this razor tomorrow night to make sure that I can get a good shave in 2 passes. The good thing is that I was able to reset the bevel and get a decent shaving edge albeit it had to be reworked a second time. Finished the shave with the cool Cryogen aftershave. I feel refreshed and very proud at the same time. Have a good Sunday guys! 20200530_165504.jpg 20200530_165504.jpg

Wow! TSD has some talented turners--awesome focus, Keith! Been a lot of talk about Electric Sheep the last few days. I'll admit, the warning Stirling includes on its website about it being a scent not for the faint of heart always had me shying away from it even though I really like their mutton tallow formula.

Love it when the Snail Forge comes out of its shell, btw. The answer to the perplexing nature of which to focus on, the scales or the steel is: both! Can't have too many photos of that razor. :D

Great shave Jim! I went on Heritage Collection's site last week to look at their new inventory. I like the Double Duck bushes. The thickness and the shape of the handle must feel extremely comfortable in the hand. I did not pull the trigger.
