Congrats, Gary! The SOC boar was my first boar brush. I've since added the SOC badger and Taj Mistura. All fantastic brushes.

I didn't break it in like you suggested because there wasn't a stink and the bristles were soft from the start. I figured that it would eventually be broken in with continuous use. I am not the only one that has a badger brush that hogs lather. I think it has to do with how the knot was made.

quite possible.i know little about brushes..i know boar hair absorbs water,badger retains it between the hair..could well be..

Thanks to 30DC I learned to shave and maintain straight razors. The rule and then focus made a huge difference. Along the way I made friends and even flew across the globe to meet some of you in person. I appreciate the camaraderie and genuine helpfulness of the thread. I also appreciate the absence of fanboyism, with the exception of Tabac (I am a fanboy).

My level of participation goes according to how busy my life is, and these days it is busy. I still try to read as many posts as I can and post to stay in touch. I tend to limit my comments to answering specific questions or where I can lend a hand. I do appreciate and enjoy all the posts.

thank you Jim.it's quite classy looking and i love the color.i thought about the butterscotch one but couldn't find one at the time..i hope the knot stands up well like the same sized omega ones do.this one has lots of backbone unused..my semogue 830 is getting quite soft..

Today's JWest razor is a 6/8 Takahana Feon 172. This razor has a crazy thin grind and takes a great edge. She was my first JWest razor. A fantastic shave today with a sharp edge and some very slick soap. One of the simple joys of our hobby is a well broken in Omega Pro knot.

the omega pro 10098 knots have been my favorites so far..i have one of the solid resin clear omega handles and the 2band dyed boar is a little floppier..

I have a spreadsheet listing the date, razor, brush and soap for every shave since January 2015. I kept all the photos on photobucket until I switched to SmugMug. As far as the actual post I just copied it from the original post.

It’s worth the time to go back to the original and see where this started.

Mickey Lee Soapworks announced they were shutting down and I got on TSD to ask for suggestions on other soaps. @RyX invited me to join 30DC and here I am. I owned 4 or 5 DE razors and 3 straights, but I was expiramenting with plating and had already started buying junk superspeeds to replate. I purchased my first GEM so I could do SEptember right. I also purchased a few OCs so I would be ready for OCtober. I've learned a lot on this group. Lesson #1 was treating people with respect even online where it's tempting to misbehave. I've learned a lot from you guys. Thanks for being awesome.

Thank you Andrew. It all started very technical as a means to get better shave results consistently. It’s still that but has evolved into so much more. Chris and Neal did a great job guiding the thread for years. Joseph has stepped in and done a fabulous job.

In fact, here's a photo from January 14, 2015 that clearly demonstrates my regularity. As you can see, I was rockin' my Mongoose in those days too.

I started my traditional wet shaving adventure in November 2012 under strange circumstances. I had gone through a rough patch a couple of years earlier that included getting professional help and routinely visiting the neighborhood pharmacist. I had few outside interests, work felt heavy all the time, and I was desperately searching for a happy place. I discovered B&B and traditional wet shaving while looking for products to help me take better care of my skin at the end of yet another work day.

I lurked on B&B and on several other shaving forums while I accumulated gear and got started. I'd previously lurked on watch forums for a few years, so I was familiar with using them as a way to gather information. At the time, I had no thoughts of making friends on a forum. I eventually discovered TSD, joined almost six years ago, and decided to stop lurking and begin actively contributing. I'm sure I had the perfect forum ID in mind when I registered. It obviously had something to do with watches (my first love), but I fat-fingered the forum name on the registration page and ended up with wristwatchb. I struggle with perfectionism, and my forum name always reminds me that I'm human, nothing is perfect, and that I make mistakes like everyone else. It's a perfectly imperfect forum name. It still makes me smile, and it keeps me humble.

In short order, I met some gentlemen that have become lifelong friends through the 30 Day Crew. (It wasn't actually called the 30 Day Crew for the first couple of years.) I keep in touch with several of them outside of TSD and hope to continue doing so for years to come. They've become part of my family. Brothers I never had. Partners in crime. Dudes that will text me at midnight. Guys that show up. My very own group of Uncle Bucks. And maybe I'm that to some of them too. After a couple of meet ups (and having to miss our meet up this year), I can't wait to see my brothers in person again. On a larger scale, the 30 DC is a special group of folks that are so vastly different, yet so accepting, caring, and non-judgmental. Over the years, we've shared life together, and in many ways, I can't imagine doing it any other way

So, yeah, my shaves have improved a lot. I've tried a lot of gear and given much of it away to help others get started. I've gotten over chasing the next best thing, and I still get excited when I can help someone or learn something new. I've carved out a niche here of starting shenanigans and causing things to evolve into downright silliness. I'm still amazed each day that I wasn't banned the previous night. I can get serious in a hurry when life demands it, but I generally reserve the 30 DC as a place to let (what's left of) my hair hang down. That's why I chose to land here in the first place, and not much has changed since then.

The year 2020 has been full of tumult, chaos, anxiety and challenges. To alleviate a few of these challenges, especially as they relate to shaving, we present: The 30 Day Rule/Focus thread.

to the September issue of the fastest, most informative (some participants might use the acronym TMI) and interesting thread in shaving---not just here at The Shave Den©, but on all of the shave fora.

This is the place to hone your skills; ask questions about lathering a challenging soap; inquire why a certain razor blade is smooth, while another is rough; discover the true meaning of “riding the cap”, and, naturally, what makes Tabac, MWF and The Veg so controversial?

In case anyone is interested, there is one “official” rule, or “recommendation” for this thread and that is:

Take one brush, one soap, one razor, one brand of blades and
use them daily for the entire month.

This rule is not set in stone by any means, but was the original intent of this thread---and one that this author believes to be most worthy. It was intended to be a repository of vast knowledge and to offer assistance and guidance to anyone and everyone, who are looking to get a better shave.
They say that "practice makes perfect". Well, this is the thread to make sure your practicing makes you perfect.

Here are a few disclaimers, which I am hereby presenting to you:

1) All are welcome, newbies and veterans
2) Respect each other at all times
3) Adhere to the rules of this forum

Traditionally, September has been a month to explore the virtues of the Single Edge razor. Far be it from me to go against tradition, so, this month’s theme will be:

As the author of this first post, I would like to add my own suggestion for some added thematic material for this month. I think it would be grand, if we could use our influence to attract some new blood (I mean, participants ) to join us. Let's get out there and recruit!

Plus, as an added bonus and quite nostalgic, if sometime during the month, we could share how we came to be involved on the 30DC thread. There are probably some very interesting stories.

We would like to welcome back Charlie and Kathy, from their long sojourn in Minnesota. Kathy's miraculous recover has warmed all of our hearts and we wish her continued good health. Another member, who has recently returned, is our own Marine, Douglas. We all are so happy to see you posting and wish you, too, health and happiness. Plus, we love to see that incredible Gillette RedTip!

Some members have taken some time off and we think of them fondly and wish them well.
Neal, Fuzzy, Jim, Andrew, Randy and others. We'll keep the candle lit for you all.

As always, we look forward to seeing your daily shaves; reading about your trials and tribulations, enabling your acquisition disorders, etc.

One thing I have come to appreciate about this thread, is the genuine concern showed for every member, who might need a little encouragement, an ear to vent to, or just to know that we all are in this together---and we mos def© are.
