Decent 3 pass shave this morning! One knick on the dome, using a Kai in the AS-D2. I really love Kapo shave cream. I hadn’t used it in awhile, and forgot how thick, creamy, and cushioning the lather is. Did not get the kind of close shave I’m used to with my usual Feather blade. Have heard Kai blades may be a bit rough the first time or two. Flipped the blade and palm-stropped it. I think I may have been applying some pressure due to my frustration with the closeness of the shave, thus the knick. We’ll see what happens tomorrow.

    RAZOR: AS-D2
    BLADE: Kai
PRE-SHAVE: Grooming Dept Unscented w/ coolant
BRUSH: Shave Nation Synthetic rec’d as a gift with a razor trade
    CREAM: Kapo
POST-SHAVE: Pre Provence Balm followed by Stirling’s Obsidian Glacial AS Splash

You actually gave me an idea, a bit unrelated though.

I'll try if this stuff helps with irritation.

We have a condo in Philly on the 51st floor. My daughter ran a marathon today, so we came in last night to watch with the grandchildren.

I shave with a straight razor most Saturdays and I have some Stirling soaps on order. I will do the best I can.

Does that mean OCtober is Open Comb month?

    Welcome to the Crew!
Yes, next months theme is open comb. If you have OC razors join in! If not, join in with what you have!
    I'm Jim btw.

Welcome to the 30 Day Crew. The themes for the each month is just a suggestion. So feel free to join in with whatever you have.

Excellent shave and lineup, Jeff! I am also a headshaver and I use very deliberate, slow strokes with light pressure. I have been headshaving 10+ years and this method works very well to prevent cuts, etc.

@MrEE, Welcome to our 30DC family! I, Keithmax (Keith) and Primotenore (Joseph) are the main straight razor shavers in this group and there are shavette shavers as well. We are here to help and guide you with tips on shaving techniques. I would like to suggest that you look at the thread, the Straight Razor and Shavette Guide for Newbies which is in the Straight Razor forum.

Thank you Gary! I have to keep it in a high cabinet else the females would use it up. Faster. Think I'll go get me another spritz!
Thanks Blair! Enabling is just one of the many services we offer here in 30DC land. ;)
    Thank you Clint!
Thanks Terry! I enjoyed it, too.
The ceramic dish is a "CASUAL ELEGANCE CHABLIS SUGAR BOWL AND LID BY HEARTHSIDE" (<- That's a link to a BIN - $17.90 is way more than I paid for mine at a thrift store.)
Incremental improvements with occasional leaps in quality. Some times you back slide, too. We all have those days.
Nice depth of field! Phone camera, real camera, or photoshop?
Good catch! November is either No Variation (Do A Rule), or No repeat for folks with little will power.

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

Welcome aboard! You are one smart cookie. Yes, OCtober is Open Comb month as a few have already confirmed. As the head cat-herder around here I wanted to say hello and reward you for your intuitive smarts! A few around here may lack that skill (no names will be given, as mine would be on that list at times). We typically have a theme every month but it's totally up to each member whether or not they follow the theme. The main thing is helping people learn to shave, or help improve their shaves by emphasizing proper technique. Gear is definitely secondary to technique, which is why our main mantra is "Technique Trumps Tools". If you have some open combs feel free to use them in October. Or any other time. Again, themes are optional but a lot of fun. Just as a heads up - we're getting close to that final quarter this year - it's OCtober (open combs), NOVembeer (No Variation, or in other words a rule), and DEC(adent)ember. December is when we pull out all of our most decadent and favorite stuff and just end the year like kings!

Again welcome and jump right on in. The water's fine and so are the people. I'm sure a lot of the chatter will confuse you at first but you can ask about anything. You'll get an answer or answers faster than you open that straight razor!

You know, Joe, while shaving it didn’t feel close, but afterwards, I discovered that it was a mistake ch better shave than I thought. Go figure!

    Enjoy your shaves,

    Jeff

Nikon D3200 with 50mm F/2 AI. I use the 55mm F/3.5 AI Micro Nikkor as well, both are great and quite affordable lenses. No metering with the lower end nikon dslr:s though.
I straighten, crop and resize the pictures, otherwise they are pretty much unedited.
