No shave day for me….
Woke up to 6F, -10F ‘feels like’. 3pm, we’re now 18F, 9F feels like. More snow/mess about 3 hours away. 3-5 inches. We should stay roughly 18-20F til tomorrow morning, warm a little.
Spent 1/2 the day checking in on Dad, a few essential errands for him and us (prescriptions). His independent living facility hasn’t lost power, it’s on the same feed as the police station across the street. All good.
We’re now at 24 hours no power (2 miles away). Able to keep the main room of the house ~50F, with one generator running heaters and devices for entertainment, been playing board games too. One generator running the fridge and microwave (as needed). Kind of feel like one of those dooms day preppers, as we’re fortunate to have the set up we have, but it’s really more luck because I have them available for my work (camping most of the time and not hotels).
The power situation in TX is a mess, literally. Lots of finger pointing. The 4 major metropolitan areas (Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, Houston and San Antonio), are running anywhere from 30-90% of the residents and businesses without power still. Some areas now getting the news it may be Wednesday afternoon before power again.
Here’s the grid situation, county by county:

If a county ain’t grey, there’s power out. Darker colors, more power out to a greater percentage. We’re in one of the orange counties, 40-45%. But, we’ll be fine…just have to wait it out.
It’s also kind of funny watching the ‘here, hold my beer’ yutes passing the time during this weather event. Just a few minutes ago, someone driving a pickup truck, one guy filming in the back, two shortened ski ropes tied to the hitch, two guys without their beer at the other end, one on a sled, the other on a round trash can lid. They made two passes on our street, it’s still 3-5 inches deep with ice/snow. Others have been using the closed streets that have elevation changes as ski/snow board ramps. Can’t make this up…I’m not that type of creative!
Hope everyone has a great rest of Tuesday!
