I bought this piece new with a factory edge with intent to hone as a practice before working on a more deluxe piece I already had. I read just enough stories of folks having difficulties to prompt me to get the ‘Plain Jane’ cousin.

It wasn’t as bad as I’d heard. A little extra work and it cam out nice. I only shaved once since sharpening.

I shorted the shave by one pass after the toe left the cutest little racing stripe on my cheek. I should pay more attention to the toe and heel softening in the future. I should also not be so hasty using items with relatively new honing. When the Mrs sees this I’m sure her comments will give further incentive to not be so sloppy in my future.

Can I still say it was a nice shave if I had to break out the styptic pencil?
Well, I am, cause Glacial Lemony Orange rocks.

    Best to all.

Great lineup, pic and shave, Bill! With pointy toes, I try to keep my razor even and flat relative to my skin so I lessen the probability of battle scars. Dipping the razor is definitely to be avoided.

    Greetings,

    Early morning shave,

Another wonderful performance from the Merkur 34c /SuperShave X Platinum duo which have paired together wonderfully with each shave.
The HWF Lanolin shaving soap i bought from ebay as a blind buy birthday present to myself last year which turned out to be a magnificent shaving soap. Since the success of the HWF lanolin cedarwood & patchouli original formula the two new formula's that Ratna or should i say Dr.R. Tantra has created are superb.

A Enjoyable 2 pass + pick ups close comfortable shave with no errors to report...Finishing to the shave off with a small dollop of Nivea Men Sensitive Cooling PSB.

My face is feeling smooth cool, & smelling divine.;)

Keep safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

SOTD THURSDAY MORNING, AUGUST 26, 2021

This morning’s mug shave was spectacular. I was a very committed vintage straight razor shaver. That is, until I bought my first Victor Creazzi straight razor. I now own two. Victor names his creations, and this particular razor goes by “Bone Mosaic”. My son is a big fan of Victor’s pattern-welded, modified SanMai technique since attending a workshop he led about a decade or so ago. Victor’s razors unlike many current Damascus razors have a dedicated edge of 1095 steel forge welded to the Damascus billet, and thus doesn’t suffer from edge micro fissures. This razor arrived with the sweetest edge, which I thus far have managed to maintain with the Schlecter Constroption and my Roo-skin bench strop. The three pass shave was amazingly smooth.

And speaking of modern artisans, Matt Pisarcik’s Rex Ambassador, a safety razor inspired by the French Gibbs Adjustable, is a superb shaver. I met Matt and his lovely wife at a Shave Collectibles meeting in a suburb of Cincinnati a few years ago. Besides running Razor Emporium in Phoenix, AZ, Matt is a serious Gillette safety razor collector, and gave a fascinating Gillette history and design talk that day. We discussed the Ambassador, then a relatively new Adjustable design of his, leading me to purchase this razor. Unfortunately, my razor had issues when it first arrived. I sent it back to Matt who repaired it on his dime, and returned to me this great shaver. As a straight shaver, I enjoy blade feel. This razor on the 6 setting feels great to shave with! Two ATG passes left me clean and glassine smooth!

RAZOR: Victor Creazzi “Bone Mosaic” 7/8 (Mug), Rex Ambassador (Noggin)
    BLADE: Feather DE
PREP: Cold water rinse followed by a scrub with Argan Oil
BRUSH: MrEE LE Knurled Aluminum Handle Hybrid Knot #007
    SOAP: Mitchell’s Wool Fat
POSTSHAVE: Cold water wash with brush squeezings followed by a rinse with Humphreys Lilac WH. Finished with Fine Platinum AS Splash.

Fabulous TI shave, Bill! I had the same experience with my Vic Creazzi Shorty. I now routinely blunt the toe points of my razors, especially after they’ve been to the stones. Live and learn! Pain does help to wake us up in the morning. Unfortunately, racing stripes also provide our dear SWMBOs with grist for the mill! Enjoy your day, my friend! :)

I do the same, Joe, but blunting the toe points is now a routine part of my honing procedure and avoids the issue entirely! :)

Thanks Jeff! In the beginning, I used to do 3 pass shaves because that was what was conventional. However, I only need 2 to 2.5 passes to get it done with an open blade. You probably have a tougher beard than I so you need that extra pass.

    Tallow + Steel Kyoto~~Simpson PL8~~'08 Gillette/Gillette Platinum~~Kashmir by Arabian Oud
Sticking with the Old Type for today's shave. Once again, a shimmed, Gillette Platinum
    was utilized for stubble removal.
I would give the T+S soap a "B". It's a solid "good" soap, but lacks slickness and post-shave feel,
which would raise the product towards an "A".
The PL8 has a bit of scritch, I must admit. If you work the lather hard,
    directly on your skin,
    the scritch will reveal itself.
Sticking with paint brush strokes will avoid any scritch issues.
The T+S Kyoto soap, with its pungent Yuzu, makes me reach for this post-shave stink-juice:
