I have purchased an English Tech with Gillette acid etched top cap and lozenge shaped bottom plate with a thin handle, no aluminium in its construction.

What year were these made please.

Any other info or opinion much appreciated

    Hi Dave.
Some pics would certainly help with dating your razor.

Thanks for the info, could the handle be a Fat one, perhaps the seller didn't know the difference

the handle appears to be a thin one, could be an early 1950 model ,and correct also, gillette liked to use up parts from previous designs.original case or box would determine the set number.1950 was a big transition year for gilltte designs/upgrades
    fat handle version..

    Most likely a mismatch.
You have a late etched topcap and baseplate from the 50-s like bellow with earlier handle from the 40-s.

Its a shame its not 100% , but not an issue as I am not a fan of the ball end handle and it shaves very well.

Thank you for your help, it's always good to have the correct info.

Franken-razor or not ....... Techs never fail to give great shaves!

I have a few franken-razors I think are better because either the top plate or handle has been swapped.

    Agree 100%

For £25 I couldn't be happier with it, the seller only advertised it as a Tech, no dates or types mentioned, it's in good clean condition and provides a great shave.

    Thank you

The US will be my daily razor and franken will be used when travelling

Does the US model have a fat handle?

the u.s and canadian versions of your new razor have the most blade exposure of all the techs,by far the best ones imo.:) i personally like my british ones but like these as well.
