Wednesday, October 29 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~Rooney Beehive~~Gillette #44/Rapira~~Pinaud Clubman Special Reserve Steady progress with the 3017. The very-soft soap makes a thick and protective lather, albeit drying on the face. The scent is unique---thank goodness, as I wouldn't want another smelling like this. While not offensive, pleasing it is not. (At least to my nose) The #44 is made in England for the French market. I find it non-descript and nothing to write home about. It, however, holds the blade securely and with some adept buffing, allows for a smooth shave. The GREEN Clubman---no, it did not change colors, is a strong, masculine leather stank. Indiana Jones would liberally splash it on.
Two shaves with the Tabula Rossa as it may become the next 3017. The 7/8 Dorko is one of my favorite straights, butterscotch scales, fancy gold inlay and a fantastic edge. Pulled the Futur down from the shelf, I guess I forgot how much I enjoy this razor. Stanks du jour, vintage Pierre Cardin and Musc Ravaguer which lives up to it's cool name.
Saturday, November 1 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~Kent BLK8~~Gillette #44/Rapira~~Vintage Aqua Velva Started the month removing a LOT of facial hair. Trimmed the mustache down to a Clark Gable. Reduced the soul patch to a fraction of its former self. Dr. Mrs. Primo was pleased. Headed off for a week camping trip Monday and I am not taking a razor. I'll get another shave in tomorrow.
Sunday, November 2 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~TSN 3rd Anniversary Paladin~~Wolfman WR1/Rapira~~Amouage Royal Tobacco I am staying true to the thread---without exceptions. The soap'll will be titaniced in a few weeks. The rod-stock on this Paladin is amazing.
Spent the weekend in Osaka and Kyoto. My standard travel kit included Tabac, Karve bronze and a Varlet Everest. Back home I went with Japanese steel, Atlas near wedge which unfortunately is in need of a touch up. Zingari which is a candidate for the next 3017, an ebonite Shavemac and vintage Derby A/S Tuesday featured more Japanese steel with my small but share Iwasaki, I wish this razor was bigger. The CF is also a conteder for the next 3017.
Thursday, November 6 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~Varlet Mega HD~~Grand Shave King/Rapira~~Louis Vuitton Pur Oud I almost didn't buy this soap, because the label is not very cool. The old geezer looks like he should be donning a long, white beard and hitting the malls in about 2 months. However, I did buy it and...damn, shoulda gone with my gut. So now I am 3017'ing the tin. That'll learn me.
Friday, November 7 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~Semogue TSN Final Edition~~Grand Shave King DOC/Rapira~~Oud Assam by Rania J The Oud in this stank is of the highest quality. Just enough "barnyard" to keep the flock satisfied. The Semogue is a reminder of a by-gone era.
Sunday, November 9 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~Black Eagle HT1~~Grand Shave King/Rapira~~Tom Ford Tuscan Leather Cold weather is here. Cold weather gear fits right in. I can think of a better soap to have employed...however, the name of the game is 3017.
Wednesday, November 12 Ethos Tears of a Dragon~~Vie-Long Beehive~~Grand Shave King/Rapira~~Creed Royal Oud This soap just arrived today so I had to take a break from pseudo-oud to the real deal. Beautiful soap/scent.
Thursday, November 13 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~Semogue SOC Boar~~Leresche #55/Rapira~~Vintage YSL M7 Back on the 3017 train. Making good progress. The M7 is the Holy Grail of western Oud stanks. This one (the EdT) is the 4 ingredient OG.
You went all in on the M7, I have the vintage version and I wish it was not so sweet smelling.... but it is the OG oud and interesting stank.
After Japan I spent 5 days in Seoul and then went to Phuket. Back home and decided to start the next 3017. I went with Tabula Rossa but after two shaves I decided this one is just not good enough for a 3017, hence the low quality pic. To add insult to injury after many shaves with fantastic edge my Grim Butcher needs a touch up. Just to make sure it was not a soap issue I went with a Joris loaded with a Silver Blue, while the soap was not the sole issue, I can use this one everyday despite the nice scent. To make appease the shaving gods and prepare for a date night I went with a super lather, AoS tallow soap and AoS cream. The Dorko is still sporting an A+ shave. I am just not sure what stank to go with tonight. Maybe Tom Ford Tuscan Leather?
Saturday, November 15 Extro Egyptian Oudh~~Simpson CH2~~Leresche #55/Feather~~Sospiro Tenore Now that this forum is going the way of the Dodo, I plan on spending the majority of my forum time over at DFS. I even started a similar 3017 thread, as I have no intention of not continually challenging myself titanicing shave soaps. I invite all of my dear friends to migrate over there. It is an excellent forum with the distinct advantage of sporting a very robust BST section. I first registered here in March of 2014. I'll miss the camaraderie and the close friends I have made over these years, but as they say: c'est la vie. Check out DFS. You'll know many people---especially yours truly. This evening, Dr. Mrs. Primo and I are attending Verdi's Rigoletto. Singing the leading tenor role is a former student of mine. I first sang The Duke way back in 1989 and it has always remained one of my favorite roles. Stank for this evening was a no-brainer: Tenore from Sospiro.
A quick thank you to all of the participants of this thread. You made it a success. Best wishes to all. Primo...out.
