These new Glacial soaps from the Stirling Soap Company are absolutely a menthol lover's dream come true - this Obsidian soap has a strong black licorice scent which mellows out while you lather up. The lather is very slick and rich as well as protective, and the menthol power from this soap is off the charts - very few menthol products make my eyes tear, no matter how cold they are but this is one of them. It's also very moisturizing and comforting. The 444 balm and the Floid Classic aftershave are a couple of face-freezers which are indispensable for my den at all times. Another frigidly-cold and enjoyable BBS shave. ;) :D

A Happy Easter to one and all! :)

    FRIDAY
    Good Friday

A new, beefy 'Utopia' handle on the R41 this morn (see more about it Here.) Heavily-knurled and substantial weight, at a very low price. So far, I like the feel of it. I also tried the fougére-scented, tallow-based Italian soap, Valobra. Very slick and dense lather; the scent is fresh & somewhat 'piney' or reminiscent of a 'damp forest.' A quality product! All in all, a very nice shave this morning!

    Have a blessed Friday, everyone!

    Frey's Day (Good Friday):

Prep: Hot Shower, Neutrogena Deep Clean Gentle Scrub
    Brush: Simpson 56 Best Badger
Soap: Ogallala Bay Rum & Sandalwood Soap Stick
    Razor: FaTip Piccolo
    Blade: Bolzano (3)
    Passes: WTG, XTG (6, 7)
Post: Cold water splash, Bloc Osma Alum, Dickinson's WH, Captain's Choice Cat o' Nine Tails AS
Cologne: The Third Man by Caron

I was laid up with a stomach issue the last two days, so this is my first shave since Tuesday. I'm clearly still learning how to lather with the Ogallala shaving stick, unless it's normal to need to reapply the soap against your face for each pass. At least the lather was stable, slick, and smells nice. Two easy passes for a DFS shave, with the Cat o' Nine Tails providing a 'kick in the pants' burst of heat to finish it off.

Decent shave, played around with a new barber's hone this morning. The shave was close and nickess but could of have been smoother. I'll try and work it out on the strop and see if I can't improve (smooth) the edge a bit.
    Have a good one.

    Red reminder
Today I used my SC101 as if I'd mastered it... I did not pay close attention, especially when I used the open comb side. The razor reminded me with a few weepers, and a little burn on my jawline. The damage happened in the places where I used the OC side. For the last few days, I've been using the SB almost exclusively. I prefer the SB side of this razor, maybe because I have learned it better than the OC side. It has me wondering - which razor shaves most like the SB side of a ShaveCraft 101?

The Coconut Bay is one of my favorite scents of any soap... It's rich and complex without being too sweet, and it matches nicely with my Krampert's Finest Acadian Bay Rum.

    Prep: RR/HTGAM lime menthol soap
    Soap: HTGAM Synergy Coconut Bay
    Brush: Plisson synthetic
    Razor: SC101
    Blade: PolSilver SI (1)
AS: Krampert's Finest Acadian Bay Rum

Prep: soaked brush, washed face with CeraVe cleanser
    Soap: HTGAM Synergy unscented
Brush: Oscar11 with Omega boar knot
    Razor: iKon ShaveCraft
    Blade: Astra SP
    After: Cold rinse, CeraVe

Excellent shave! The big boar brush loaded up the HTGAM soap quickly and made a big load of lather on my face. Comfortable, smooth shave from the ShaveCraft with a new Astra blade.

A bit of a lazy shave this morning. It wasn't the best lather I've gotten from the Col Conk lime but I had enough for a timid 2 pass straight razor only shave. I need to get more comfortable using a straight on my neck. After two passes, I had one nick and a sociably acceptable shave.

I was a little hesitant about taking on a shave this morning. I shaved twice yesterday (once in the morning before work and once in the evening before a banquet), but I should have not worried. No bites, burn or problems at all. 3 easy passes and enjoyed the little bit of burn from the Cat. Lather was great, again. Brush is breaking in nicely. No-name blade had no issues at all. I'm almost done with the single blades from the Blade Safari PIF I received in March.

My first exposure to DEs was through fly tying, too. Working with deer hair was always my favorite. It sure does dull a razor quickly, though!

First time using Valobra, I'm amazed how will it lathered! And the time it took to have enough for two shaves. Rich and slick lather, I didn't feel the menthol until my third pass, and it was faint.
    Go out and get it!
