Looks like everyone had a good time going old school with last week's Theme Week.

One of the reasons I enjoy the theme weeks is that in some cases it "forces" me use or try things that are not part of my normal shave routine. Cold water shaving, face lathering and using Williams Mug soap are a few examples.

With that in mind, this week's theme is all about the bowl/mug/scuttle. I know many of us prefer the bowl, so how 'bout showing 'em off? Let's see a few pics of what you using to whip up your lather. And while you're at it, why not give us a run down on how you whip up your lather.*

    Here's how I make mine ---> *click*

And for you face latherers out there, why not give it a try just this week?

*For those who are new to this, what works for me and/or others may not work for you. Why?
    - You may not have the same brush type
    - You may not have the same brush size
    - You may not have the same soap or cream
    - What is a "few" swirls/seconds/drops of water for us may not be the same "few" for you
    - You may be pushing the brush into the soap harder or not as hard
    - You water may be harder or softer

Certainly give all the advice a try. Only by experimenting will you find what works for you.

I will be using my new Georgetown Pottery G-12 scuttle. I had no idea that I liked warm lather this much!

Fill your sink with hot water and put your lather filled bowl there. Alternatively use a small bowl in a big bowl filled with hot water

Soak your brush in warm (not hot) water for 2-3 minutes.
Remove brush and give 1 brisk shake. (Removes about 50% of the water)
Load brush on soap vigorously, with right and left swirls, pumps, (push down firmly) and straight strokes directly across the soap surface.
Move loaded brush to bowl and agitate with purpose.
Work lather into your face for at least 1 minute, and shave with love. :love055:

    Cella makes me smile! :)

    Brush: Barbera Classico Cerda
    Mug: Steve Woodhead (UK)
Razor: Vintage Gillette Black Beauty Long Handle
    Blade: Ladas
Soap: Badger Shave Soap - After seeing the thread on the soap, I had to order it, if for no other reason, to get the box. :signs021: On initial use today, it is a keeper. Nice slick lather; comfortable BBS shave; pleasant scent.

My Captain's Choice bowl with today's lather of DR Harris Arlington soap made creamy with a Whipped Dog 24mm Synthetic brush. The bowl is just the right size to fit in your palm, and the ridges on the bottom make for easy lathering with any soap.

Isn't mug lathering just another way of saying face lathering? I've been mug lathering since last September.

Only if by the term "mug", you're referring to your face.

I load my brush, then take it to a bowl/mug/scuttle to finish whipping it up.
Face lathering - load up the brush, then take it straight to the face to whip up the lather.

Me, I don't like to face lather.

So if you apply your Shaving Soap or Shaving Cream with your brush to your face is that defined as painting your face?

Yes, but it be applicable to other 'not shaving-related' activities as well. ;)

I use a ton of badger products but never thought to check and see if they have shave soap. How was there shave soap?
