Alright, yesterday I asked for feedback regarding pre-shave oils. Here is a new question: what do you guys recommend for a post-shave? I have an alum block on the way but I was thinking about trying Razorock Aftershave Wax. Any other recommendations? Thanks in advance?

After shaving I usually rinse with warm water then with cold water. While my face is still wet with the cold water I use the alum block then clean up the brush and razor, rinse again with cold water to remove the alum (otherwise it tends to dry my face) and apply an aftershave while my face is still a little damp. If I had a smooth shave I might use a splash, if I have any irritation (it doesn't happen as much anymore, but occasionally) I'll use a balm or gel style aftershave or maybe a witch hazel based product.

+1 I use an alum block in the manner cmorris described. I recommend Stirling Witch Hazel aftershaves. They have great skin soothing qualities. Geo F Trumpers Skin Food is good stuff too.

I usually clean off my face with a wet shave towel, let it air dry while I clean up the sink area, then I use an aftershave balm or splash. Balms I like are Art of Shaving Kelp and Proraso White. Splashes I like are numerous and usually have alcohol.

If I have a nick or weeper I hit it with a styptic pencil before the aftershave and take care of that first. Sometimes I'll have a really bad neck problem and then I'll use an alum block on it, let it dry for about 5 minutes, then wet towel it off, let it dry and afershave splash.

Some people use alum blocks after every shave, and if it works for them, great. Do whatever you want. There's no wrong or right here. It's your shave.

I've had several routines during my WS adventure, but at the moment I've settled on this:

    1. Luke rinse to get rid of the remaining lather followed by cold water. Pat dry.
    2. Use my alum block in case I have a spot, nick, etc. Pat it on those areas, no more. Let dry.
    3. Apply a homemade lotion or splash, depending on mood.

Why not alum on entire face? And why bother with a home made solution, when there's plenty of commercial products on the market?

Alum/aluminium etc, is under fire of causing cancer and Alzheimer. I dunno what to believe (noone does...), but I do believe that it wont hurt to minimize exposure.

As for lotion, there are so many chemicals in most cheap products (and expensive also) that I've tried to make my own of known ingredients, devoid of harmful agents. It works, its inexpensive and it's fun to make :)

When I don't use my home made lotion, I use Nivea for Men Sensitive after shave balm.

Wow thanks guys. Sounds like I will have to try a few things and see what works for me. I am sure this is a very personal choice.

@Dapper-in-a-can-man, I am huge fan of skin food as well, and its pretty much the only thing I use for post shave. You mentioned stirling witch hazel, how do they compare? Do they have better scent staying power? Do you like them better than the Fine Platinum?

Suggestion #3, Vodka, Rum, cinnamon sticks, limes, sounds like someone's getting wasted at an after shave after party. ;)

I only have Stirling Sharp Dressed Man, it has alcohol, witch hazel, and aloe in it. It is great though. Rod does sell just a witch hazel and I'm not sure how its staying power is but Sharp Dressed Man is wonderful. It stays all day. It evens out well. It's definitely not over powering throughout the day. Fine Platinum is the same. It hits like an AS but evens out very nice. It last all day as well. Honestly, I can't pick. They are both great aftershaves.
