September 30 Day Focus--Blade Search Sept 28 Razor -- Lord L6 Blade -- Vaunted Voskhod Brush -- VDH Boar Soap -- Proraso Red (completely forgot menthol Monday today ) Post -- Cold water splash, WH After having several really nice shaves with the Schick injector G (a razor which will definitely be in my permanent rotation) I am back to the original focus of this month, my blade search on the L6. I am returning to the Voskhod blade to give it another chance. I feel I may have treated it unfairly using it before my technique was sound and so I want to verify whether the blade is as good as @NCoxSTL claims or if it is just not the blade for me as I found previously. Today was another face lather, still not sure it is for me. I put a little proraso on my cheeks and a small amount on the brush which was good and wet and set about making very good lather. No complaints and the smell of proraso red is always amazing. Well, like last time the blade is off to a very good start. It was very different picking back up the L6 after using the Schick, but like riding a bicycle the angles and everything came back very quickly. Set off on my first pass WTG on face and XTG on chin and neck. Very good first pass. Smooth as can be. Great reduction in my beard which had a couple days on it. No issues with pass number one. So on to pass 2. ATG everywhere and it was a very nice shave. Smooth, no irritation, sliced right through everything with ease. Cold water splash, a small touch up on the underside of my jaw, and it was a great shave. Now, the Voskhod started strong last time too. Unfortunately, it the faded such that it was not a good shave by shave 3. Today was an excellent shave that is probably 99.9% BBS. No complaints at all. Here's to hoping it can keep up the good work and change my opinion of the blade.
Thank you, Charlie. CC is pretty good stuff. I did add about 2 drops of glycerin per oz to help out with post shave skin care.
September 27th SOTD (Shave 12 of this focus) Three days’ growth Preshave: Hot Shower Razor: Henckels Friodur Inox Strop: Drygulch Leatherworks Oiled Latigo (30 laps linen/ 30 laps leather pre, 10 /10 post) Brush: Handturned Maple Badger Soap: Homestead Ranch Rosewood (goat butter soap) Postshave: Cold Water Rinse, Alum Block, Thayer’s Witch Hazel Aftershave: Aqua Velva Classic Iced Blue Picked up a soap at the farmer’s market this weekend. Locally made Goat Butter Based soap. Used to be one of my favorite types of soap. Had a hard time getting the water right this time, but it worked. I have a bug bite about an inch under my lip that has been cut up twice when trying to shave, so I am growing out my goatee. That took five minutes off my shave time. I took a while to catch up on the thread this morning, but finally did it. My shave was last night, and it still feels DFS this morning. This razor is very, very smooth. I have enjoyed using it, but am looking forward to using a different couple of razors next month. Happy Monday all!
Isn't it cheating to exploit your son's cuteness to win an award?! oh what the heck.....yeah if you've got the advantage use it!
Oh wait. Do you think he was serious? Should we call TSA? Do they allow wet shaving in the big house?
I saw a pic of a GEM 1912 he coated on another forum. It did get me to thinking but with my BAD in full bloom, I need to cool it for a while.
You sure make it tempting to join you on the OC trail...but in honor of your anniversary, I'll leave it to you to start the OC fun and join you in just a few days.
Thanks for that tip, and here's one of the links I pulled up, via your suggestion, that advises that shaving can take place in an institution: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/nos-gillette-prison-psycho-tech-10-piece-set.34145/ I wonder if we can PIF him some of his favorite blades if he winds up having to be there? By the way, in that Google search, you'd be amazed what also turned up when I googled- "Gillette Psycho" ...
