Charlie, very cool looking razor. For a change of pace you could try the smaller Bomber handle from the Mongoose.
Today was day two with I'm thinking that this blade may not be a keeper as I already can name three blades I like better. The blade seems to be sharp enough, but it isn't very smooth. I am giving each blade three days in my focus and this was day two. SOTD EJ DE89 Personna Med Prep (2) Rubberset 400 Proraso Green pre-shave Proraso Green Cream Glacial splash Florida Water Have fun!
Thanks Clint. That's a great idea. I will give the Mongoose handle a try next week. By that time, I should have a pretty good feel for the ball end handle. That will allow me to do a fair comparison.
Thanks guys for the well wishes, positive thoughts, and prayers! No shave today for me so tomorrow will be my menthol Monday. Looking forward to shaving instead of digging trenches. Good news is most of the water is out of my back yard and flowing away. Good news is no work today and no work tomorrow because State Government in Columbia is closed since there is either no water or very little water pressure in parts of downtown.
I'll consider your request, though I haven't seen a bribe offered yet. You know how Russian politics (and mobs) work....it's all about the ruble, Comrade.
The bowl is a soup (not soap) bowl from a local artist. I had stolen a serving bowl from the kitchen for a few months, and SWMBO recommended I get a bowl when we saw the artist again. The straight is a piece of history. 150 years old, never unpinned or restored. She has just been taken good care of. Its a big heavy piece of Sheffield Steel that makes whiskers quiver in fear. Today she also took off the top of a mole, and when I jumped, she reminded me how sharp she is. I ended up with an inch long cut on my cheek.
If it's any consolation I never met a Russian blade I didn't like. Although Sputniks are on the fence.
Ok, so I'm considering The Veg, but I'm afraid I won't be one of the chosen ones. Anybody care to chime in?
Okay Gents. Reset.. I was blessed with the generosity of TSD members today. I'm going to add an open comb (Gillette Old Type) to my focus this month. A BIG thank you to Clint @theFAT98 for the awesome box he sent me, and a BIG thank you to Tom @twhite for the razor rest he sent. Thankful for the generosity of Clint and Tom.
OCtober - Trick or TREET October 5 Razor - Edwin Jagger DE89l Blade - (2) Brush - Vie-Long 12601 The Pony Soap - TSD Lanolin Bay Rum Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea Original Day two on the Trig. Monday morning and the final day of training. I've finally bought my freedom from the grind of webinars and e-training. Life is good. And, it's even better with a great shave again. The second shave of the Trig was equal to the first. A bit dull but not at all harsh and just needs three full passes with a bit of my usual tough up to get a very high level DFS. I'm not sure I could ever get BBS with this blade but I rarely chase the baby so I'm not too worried about that. With the Pony in the Rum the lather was awesome and man does the scent from the TSD soap jump out at you. Love it. I'm now ranking my soaps with MWF in first, TSD Lanolin in second and Tabac in a very close third. Actually TSD and Tabac are probably tied. As far as comparing the Trig to the King I think the King is still a bit better of a blade but I wouldn't be upset if I had to use the Trig for an extended time. That's now five shaves on the focus and five TREETS in a row. Haven't found a trick yet! Now, if only the Pakistanis could smooth out their commute like they smooth out their blades!
