As unbelievable as it may sometimes seem I try to avoid bloodbaths. When I choose, shall we say, strange setups it is just my natural curiosity trying to learn what's out there and if my technique is good enough to win the day. Ok well the month I did bad blades with bad Russian razors.....hmmmmmmm. Well it was worth a try. And the Williams soap was worse than the blades. Oh....and for the record I found a couple Chinese blades I haven't tried. Just a preview of more fun to come!
10/06/2015 Razor – New LC with Triad Helix SS Blade – Feather (3) Brush – Romera Olivewood Synthetic Lather – MdC Fougere Post - Witch Hazel & Fine L’Orange A very good 3 pass shave this morning. Not quite a BBS but more than acceptable on a work morning. As usual the MdC was easy to lather and a joy to use. Finished off with a splash of Fine L'Orange.
30 day focus - Day 6 Fat Boy set to 6 Sputnik Blade MDC 3 passes I loaded the brush while counting to 3, lathered my face, and had a wonderful 3 pass shave. MDC is just a wonderful soap.
SOTD October 6, 2015 Prep: Hot Shower. Axe Energizing Face Wash Boost Razor: Gillette Old Type Blade: Personna Lab Blue Lather: Chiseled Face Sherlock Brush: Stirling Synthetic Post: Thayers Cucumber WH. Gold Bond Ultimate Aftershave: Fine Clean Vetiver Fantastic shave. So good I shaved my goatee off kept the stash. Sherlock is um.. I can't figure out the scent. I get some dirt, tobacco, honey, leather, it's a lot going on. Great stuff! The Gillette Old Type, smooth, the balance is perfect, a 3 pass shave yielded me a DFS. No irritation at all. Thanks again @theFAT98 and @twhite for the very cool razor rest! Never let the things you WANT Make you forget the things you HAVE
10/5 & 6/15 Gillette Old Type Frank Shaving Pur-tech Synthetic Aqua Velva Ice Blue Shave #2 & 3 with the Gillette Silver Blue in my Old Type. Did face lather and 2 full passes each day. Both nice shaves without any irritation. Kind of rushed being on the road, but still able to get a couple of BBS shaves with very little touch up from the GBS. - Edit - Err, that's GSB Hope all are well.
Day three with I had high hopes for this blade after seeing some favorable reviews. While I'm not willing to call it a bad blade, I've had better results from Feather, Gillette 7 O'Clock Blue and GSB blades. Day three gave me a nice shave, but I got some irritation on my neck. I think this will be my last shave with this blade. SOTD EJ DE89 Personna Med Prep Blue (3) TSD Bourbon Vanilla Shave Stick Badger Brush Witch Hazel Old Spice AS Have a great day!
Thank you Charlie. I do really enjoy this set up. Looking forward to the Wolfman for at least the next 3 shaves.
OCtober - Trick or TREET October 6 Razor - Edwin Jagger DE89l Blade - (3) Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - Mitchell's Wool Fat Post - Cold Water, Alum, Nivea Original Final day on the Trig and it's a good thing. This blade pretty much died overnight sitting on the shelf. The drag factor was quite a bit worse than yesterday and I wouldn't want to push it to four shaves. Not a bad thing, necessarily, but the King was the same way so maybe Treets are three and out blades by design. Anyway, the BoSFat was the usual fantastic lather, three full passes to a DFS, but I've had better finishes. All in all a good shave, and the Trig is a TREET not a trick overall. I'll just make sure to note that it's a two shave blade and done just to avoid the letdown on day three. Today is an important day, by the way, because it's the day before the most important day of the year. Well, ok so it's not that important but..... Tomorrow I finally get to fully open the box @Rufus T. sent me last month and end the mystery. Cake and ice cream for everyone tomorrow on me!
October 6 Razor: 20's Old Type Blade: 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (2), no shim Running a bit late, so just a quick one-pass WTG. Ended up with a nice CCS with minimal irritation.
Well I didn't want to ruin it after all that thought he put into delaying it. Am I considerate or what?
October 6, 2015 OC October - This month I'll introduce myself to my OCs. Gillette New LC Gillette Goodwill Standard Safety Razor OC Schick Type C1 OC Hot Shower, Morning Shave Soap: Cella Brush: Omega Pro 48 Razor: Gillette New LC Blade: Voskhod (1) TSD Witch Hazel Aftershave: Proraso Green In the first week I used a 7 O'Clock Blue and had 5 great shaves in the New LC. So with my last remaining shaves before switching to the next razor, I will try out another blade in it. (@NCoxSTL my choice has nothing to do with getting back on the good side of the Cartel. Really. Nothing at all. Trust me.) Two-pass shave (XTG, ATG). 1st pass - Very smooth, good feedback, really nice reduction. 2nd pass - Very efficient, more feedback, few repeat strokes. A completely satisfying shave! Smooth and clean face all the way around, with no irritation. Excellent first shave with this blade! In fact, THE ABSOLUTE BEST SHAVE OF MY LIFE, REALLY! (How's that NC?) Autumn is my favorite season of the year. Among the many reasons - the Fall Classic! Play ball! RT
Razor: Gillette Aristocrat 1947 (Birth Razor) Blade: Voskhod Teflon Coated (1) Brush: WDC-4 Silver Tip Butterscotch Handle (VIG) 24/67 Bowl: Yokohama Studio Cream: Proraso A/S: Lucky Tiger Day 6 One of, if not my favorite razors with a Voskhod blade, which is the first time I have used this manufacture. Added a little menthol crystals to the bowl before adding the cream. I think I said before I used a tablespoon of hot water to the menthol, but is a teaspoon. Excellent 3 pass shave tonight. It will be interesting to see how this blade holds up over a week.
It is amazing how much results vary from person to person. If that wasn't the case, we would all be using the "best " blade
