"Well now thats just the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard!" I'm not that stuck up Herm. why would you have to kneel first?
Shave today can be described shortly. Yea. . . ouch! I lathered up some MWF with the WD 20mm synthetic. A little on the wet side but the lather had slickness and held together well so I used it. I bowl lathered but since it was wet I worked it into my face like I was face lathering a few minutes and it seemed to help. I used the whipped dog sight unseen razor a fellow forum member sent me and it pulled some. I stropped about 40 laps on the poor man's strop and it was butter smooth on my face. If I had stopped there I would have had a CCS. I felt some stubble so I decided to use part of my focus for my later passes. I loaded up a voskhod blade into my triangle hole ball end tech and did a pass and a half XTG with the extra half pass on the neck. At first, I thought it was going very well. I paid attention to angle pressure and stayed slow so I would be able to maintain the angle and lack of pressure. I rinsed off and the pain started. Around the goatee area and lips I was burning and red with several weepers. My neck still felt OK and it had a significantly less amount of hair reduction so I relathered and shaved opposite XTG from the first DE pass and managed a DFS in stubble reduction and a hellish burning sting of defeat on over half of my shaved area. Tomorrow I will try a thicker lather for more cushion and I will pay greater attention to how much water I add into it. I attempted to put out the flames with Nivea sensitive post shave and it failed miserably. Voskhod and the tech seperatly dislike me and together they attempted murder.
I couldn't agree more Herm! - "Paradise is exactly like where you are right now, only much, much better!"
OCTOBER FOCUS - Gillette Old Type I am really glad we have this focus thread with its lively discussions (albeit sometimes a bit off track) and the related shenanigans. I never would have thought that my paying this much attention to a single razor would have paid the dividends it has. After starting out the month a little rough with my 1907 Single Ring this last week has been rewarding and pleasant. My technique has evolved enough that I can consistently get (at least) DFS after DFS. So, now it's on to my 2nd Old Type. I've said it before, this razor was a gift from my 90 year old Aunt. It was her father's who passed away in the 1930's. Not sure why she still had the razor, but I'm glad she did. I've only used this once before, so I'm looking forward to see how my experience with the Single Ring might reward me. Razor: Late 20's Old Type Blade: Astra SP Brush: Strong Set (WD Black Badger) Soap: TSD Iced Signature Scent AS: Pinaud Clubman
You're a very lucky guy Herm, thats a great connection to the past. Hope you can continue the thread when you're through with it.
Great line from the Laurie Anderson song "Language is a Virus" Sorry guys, I have a very strange taste in music!
