My first Braves game was 83, Pascual Perez versus Fernando Valenzuela, in the sunshine at the old Fulton County stadium. Torre was the manager.

I spent many an afternoon or evening sitting in the stands of FCS. I've never been to the Ted. Maybe I'll take in a few games at the new stadium in Kennesaw, as it's a lot closer to home. The Braves class A Sally league team plays here in Rome now. It's fun to go watch the guys who will be in the big show in couple of years.

Minor league ball is a blast. I saw most of this team's games that year. Check out the names. Many guys on this team won the title with Oakland a few years later.

I'm not the biggest basketball fan but it's growing on me. Since abandoning the former NFL, now the National Drama League, I've paid more attention to B-ball and have gotten into it more each season. I'll still watch a hockey game over basketball, but compared to a few years ago I'm absolutely a raving fan now.

Totally agree with the minor league fun thing. Great names, some of the greatest food ever thought of for ball games and the fan promotions usually rock. Plus the players are fighting to get to the next level so the level of effort is off the charts in most cases. Awesome stuff. When I lived in Huntsville I went to a few Stars games and had a blast, as well as several Channel Cats hockey games. Those guys made the arena shake!

We have probably been in the same arena at the same time. I went to just about every Channel Cats played when they were there. Channel Cats had one of the greatest logos of all time.

The Champs have been hearing a ton of trash talk from a couple of teams in the league, I think it's going to motivate them for repeat! :sport001:

They were clearly the best team in the NBA last year. Honestly, with the roster the W's have, anything less than a Finals appearance this year will be considered a disappointment. Curry is HOF material, and has enough guns around him that he's unguardable, especially if Thompson is shooting well. Kerr's absence won't matter much...his players have bought in and will run his system regardless of whether he's on the sideline or not.

The old CHL actually was rough and wild like that. Way more fights than the NHL.

I love minor league baseball. Some of my earliest memories are going to Amarillo Gold Sox games in the late 70's and early 80's with my dad. The players used to hit a homerun and then walk around the edge of the stands collecting tips in their hats.

For one season in the early 80's we would go and root for our favorite player known only as Tony. We would really root for him, and I used to try to be like him. We paid him a couple of dollars over that season. A few years later, he was on TV with the Padres. It was Mr. Padre, Tony Gwynn. He was great, and even at my young age (5 or 6 at the time), you could tell he was different than the rest.

With my parents moving to San Antonio, I fully intend to make some of those same type of memories with my son at their local minor league team. In fact, I can't wait for next summer just for that reason.

So cool. There was a guy on my town's roster like that. He hit the ball farther and harder than all the rest. Around town, he was known as "Parkway Jose", because a well hit HR would leave the stadium and roll onto US 231, known as Memorial Parkway in Huntsville. You know him as Jose Canseco.
