Burma shave is owned by Personna, these were a variation of the Moving Blade shaving system, later branded as the Acti-flexx. They were the precursor to the Tri-flexxx...
The Moving blade system was introduced in 1997 and was compatible with the Sensor. It wasn't until the Mach 3 that Gillette products were not compatible with any other system. The Twin and triple blade systems from Derby appear to be based on the Acti-Flexx.
Were the carts meant to lock into a set position, or is DarkBulb's razor (or cart) not functioning properly?
Me no know. It very firmly clicks into on of two positions/angles to the point where it felt it was designed that way. Hard to tell if it is intended to do so or not especially with an odd off-brand head like this one.
I have a hunch it's a defect. The Sensor is definitely not made to lock into position. If your carts were intended to, that would actually involve a specific design alteration that would require a good amount of R&D to implement. R&D is pretty much the territory of the big boys like Gillette and Schick, given the expense. That said, I'm just speculating. Perhaps someone who actually knows can tell us.
I have a Moving Blade Shaving System, I will have to check it out tomorrow as it's buried deep somewhere in a box.
Price check on aisle 5.... I got an offer to buy 23 new Gillette Sensor cartridges for $14 shipped. Not being too versed in these ones how is that deal?
Oh I am more into Sensor-3 than Sensor (2 bladed). . Thanks for the helping offer, I really appreciate it.
SOTD: WS Hydro 5 Noxzema regular shave foam Omega syntex Old spice Classique AS lotion The updated review on Hydro 5 can be seen here.
Today is the day I shave my goatee off for a month or two, because I want to see how the Gillette and Schick products shave the whole face. I'm going to use my Hydro 5 with my new Badger brush (I'm still learning how to get the right water/soap ratio with it).
Surprise journey to the dark side. 10 months DE shaving, got technique down to nicks once or twice a week, with Derby or Feather. No matter what I tried, by second shave on a blade could not get BBS all over. I make one pass ATG and touch up. DFS not BBS on jaw line, chin, and under jaw. Repeated passes only cause irritation. Had a Gillette Fusion Proglide Manual with Flexball I had picked up a year ago. Three mornings ago, on a whim, tried it with Cremo. Not only was the shave much quicker but it was the closest shave I have gotten. BBS all over my face. Waited for irritation all day, none. Three days three shaves, no nicks or weepers, no ingrown hairs, no irritation or redness, no problems, just three quick, shaves closer than I ever got with a DE. I am using a Proglide manual cartridge, so far with Cremo, Nivea Sensitive Shave Cream and Gillette Fusion Ultra Sensitive Gel. I had only a little tugging with the Gel, with the creams none at all. Still using one pass ATG, for me south to north. The single blade trimmer does just fine around mustache and sideburns. I am using a very light touch, as I would with a new Feather blade, no nicks, weepers, just amazing BBS. So I will continue to experiment with different creams, soaps and gels, just to see what works best. I do not regret learning and enjoying DE shaving. I will continue with the prep and post shave I learned, but for hardware, Gillette Fusion Manual Progilde with Flexball does the best job of all. I expect I will eventually try the power version of razor and cartridge, but for now I am set. Anyone else make this trip?
There have been times when I found myself rubbing my thumb on irritated section, all day long. DE shaving is of course, a pleasure, but I am more of a science lover. As I progressed from DE to two blades, then three, four and finally the proglide, I was able to tell and appreciate how well the engineering behind the blades has progressed. If you are careful with your technique and maintenance when using the proglide, you are rewarded handsomely . For now, Proglide and Hydro 5 are my favorites.
I am also a science lover and if the first goal is maximal whisker removal, second goal is minimizing skin damage, third goal is minimizing time spent, fourth goal is minimizing costs per shave than so far Proglide with Flexball is way ahead on at least the first three. As an experienced user I would appreciate any information and advice. How many shaves do you get from a pro glide cartridge? What do you do for razor/cart maintenance? What shaving techniques work best for you? What creams/soaps/gels work best with a Proglide for you? Of course YMMV, but since I am very new to this hearing from someone with more experience would be appreciated.
First of all, I am a DFS shave admirer. I do appreciate the BBS feel but my face feels too... naked. The ATG pass which you make, presents most damage to the cartridge blades as its not only the whiskers that you cut but also do some skin scrapping. Which of course, leads to poor mileage. Following are the answers to your given question. 1... I get solid 15 shaves and cost/shave = $0.22 ( I can go further but why should I? I already have 47 GFP cartridges in my cupboard) 2... I will post a separate thread on this topic (Shaving right with Fusion Proglide , I will post the link here as an edit) 3... Will be posted in the thread I mentioned in answer #2 4... In my case, the mixture of shaving foam and some gel in a bowl prepared with a brush. It leaves least amount of residue on the blade after you dry it up. Foamy plus any gillette gel will do. Soaps and creams leave too much residue in form of white particles. Don't worry, I am going to compose a whole new thread on this topic. . I hope it will help you and other gents having the same pursuit.
