Would you guys consider letting me join this group even though I made a purchase in the wild on January 2nd? If not, I'll join the SD16 group
I have no objection. Many of us have stipulations that we can make certain purchases. Welcome aboard sir!
This has been an interesting thread. We have folks that have already dropped out, folks that will drop out (maybe me; maybe you), and folks that will make it to the end. If nothing else, I believe this thread has awakened us to what we have, why we have it, and why we continue to make purchases even though we have a bunch of nice gear (used and unused). Although we are only a few days in to '16, I have no desire for any new products. I also believe the discussions to this point have conditioned me to seriously give NB16 an honest try. I have a fine array of excellent brushes, razors, and soaps. I just gotta take advantage of the wonderful gear in the den.
Thanks for letting me join. I have more razors and supplies than I could use for many years. In fact, my plan is to sell off a few of the excess razors. I will spend my year focusing on what I have through the 30 day thread. I will qualify my entry by saying that I will spend nothing this year. I won't rule out trades to get something I'm missing. I am still wanting Schick type A and F razors. I'll worry about that bridge if it comes up. Good luck guys!
Since I fancy myself as a forward thinker, If I do NB 16 just for lent would that be the equivalent of giving up beer?
Here lies a Hampshire Grenadier, who met his death drinking cold small beer, a good soldier is never forgot, whether he dieth by musket or pot!!!
I'm zig zagging through the obstacle course today. I find myself desirous of a razor I chanced across. I really don't need it, but it is a far better example than what I have of the same razor. I have not bid nor bought it, and I don't plan to, however I've been having entertaining thoughts of entertaining thoughts. But I'm still glad I am committed to this No Buy 2016. I will not tease myself about it anymore.
As with most things in life, how we feel about a situation is all a matter of perspective. We can be on a desert island and some will feel trapped and others will feel they landed in paradise. I view No-Buy 2016 in a similar light. I could feel like I have signed a 1 year prison sentence...a declaration of misery, deprivation and self-imposed torture...or I can see myself as liberated to enjoy the wonderful shaving products I own without the self imposed pressure to continue buying products I either don't need or want. Or continue to buy more products to the extent that I can't really enjoy any one of them because I have so many. Is my no-buy 2016 glass half full or half empty? Without a doubt...mine is half full. Only 6 days in but I am already enjoying some of my products in a way that I had not previously experienced. Sit back and enjoy the journey. Who knows...we may learn new things about our passion for wet shaving and maybe something new about ourselves.
