I told you that you'd love it!!! However mine has been banished to my razor holder until further notice as I am enjoying my Futur and Fatboy too much to use it....if I skip more then 5 days on shaving though I will grab that first! Great photo BTW!
I went with the Fatboy yesterday and today...taking a pic now of what I used and I will weigh in on my thoughts.
2/23/16 - Valet AutoStrop VC4!! So everything about today's shave was great!!! BBS from this magnificent razor. The Midnight Brush from Knockout Shave whipped up a perfect lather from Proraso Blue. And Catalyst gave a wonderful post shave feel!!! Wow! I'm wondering if I got better at lathering Proraso or there is a difference in the soap vs the cream. The VC4 is a great razor. Not too mild and not too aggressive. Beautiful! Video is up if you want to watch.
Beautiful photo Cap, the cream is fantastic, you might have dialed it. It layers beautifully and provides ample cushion IMHO. I apply it directly to the brush and face lather it. Gonna watch your vid now, you've been peaking my interest in these older razors, they're just so darn . for taking the time.
I'm sure that this won't help your cause either. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...16-february-28-2016.49888/page-6#post-1000350
SOTD Tabac Tuesday!!!! Gillette Fatboy G1/Voskhod (4 I think....) JR #5 Pure Badger Brush Georgetown Scuttle Tabac Shave Soap The Veg Tabac Tuesday commenced at 0500 this morning and did I need it. Rough start to my morning as I was woken up at 3:30 am by a neighbor two houses up yelling at each other and they woke up my 6 week old daughter so I went out there and "politely " asked them to keep the noise down. Came back in made a cup of coffee with what little I had left. Left it at the counter and went to fill up the kettle and my lovely 25lb Maine Coone decided she wanted to just up on the counter except she is too big and not agile... Long story short she attempted to jump up and hear head and paws hit my cup knocking it down and shattering it and my last bit of coffee went everywhere... Fast forward to me not cursing like a sailor and I set up my shave gear and hopped in the shower. Got out, dried off and cranked the Fatboy to 9 for my first pass. First pass was a mix of WTG & XTG and it went great. I notice I have to do a kind of steeper angle then I am use too but that is ok. Rinsed off with cold water and relathered went for my AGT pass and nothing... I quickly realized the first pass had eliminated all the stubble I had this morning. Well that's no fun... I just started shaving?!?! Oh well. Rinsed off the lather with cold water and splashed on an unhealthy amount of the Veg and went up to Dunkin Donuts for coffee. I am really loving the Fatboy and I am glad I finally have one. Not only will it have a spot in my den but I can honestly say in an emergency/ desert island type situation this is the one razor I would grab. Ok and maybe my Futur... or my...Well the Fatboy would be the first I grab... Hope everyone had a better start to there morning then me and I hope you all have a great day/night and have a great shave!!!
An early post for tomorrow's shave! Wednesday morning: Neutrogena Men Facial Wash Large Horsehair Barbershop Super Speed/Astra day 3 OSP Grapefruit Menthol SS Gold Bond Moisturizer Osage Rub AS Grey Flannel EdT Another ice-cold setup for a great shave. Wow, do I ever love this Grapefruit Menthol soap's scent, lather, and powerful menthol effect and its terrific skincare. The Rubby Dubby Doo is another top favourite "iceberg" of mine - can't be without it!
I'm glad your happy with it bud, it's an awesome razor and it feels well made and chunky. It really mows it all down too.
Thanks and yes it does mow it all down very well. I plan on doing a side by side test of it versus the Futur in a battle of the adjustables... You should pick up a Futur also!
Monday 22nd February (yesterday). Scuttle: Steve Woodhead Ceramics, large Suribachi. Soap: OSP grapefruit & menthol. Brush: Razorock 24mm Plissoft. Razor: 1940's Gillette English Service Set Tech head, Windrose handle. Blade: Sputnik(2). Post: Superdrug Sierran Breeze ASL, The Real Shaving Co. balm, Nivea Crème. The Sputnik in the Tech made for a very comfortable and safe BBS in 2 and half passes (WTG, ATG & pickups) and I love the cooling effect of the menthol in this soap. I really like this Windrose handle on the Tech too. The shape is very easy to hold and extra weight helps get the most out of the ultra-safe head. The ASL is a new one for me which I spotted whilst out shopping. I remembered reading favourable reviews so took advantage of their "any 2 for £3.50" offer. It seems to work well and the scent is very light but fresh, I like it. Another very enjoyable shave.
The Old Spice Lantern Decanter you had in your picture was yellow. Did it contain Lime or Cologne? I can't seem to recall.
I'm with you on the FB and Futur. The FB was my first vintage razor and my favorite. I got the Futur as a Christmas gift from my bride, and was not sure if I woul like it. I use it more than my FB now, and if anything happened to it, it would be way cheaper to replace.
It has regular After Shave in it, and that is what the label says also. I'm not sure if you can tell by the glass color.
