  1. March Madness

I'm going to mix things up a bit for March. Not quite madness, but a competition of sorts. I'm going to challenge the blades that did well in the Old Type to see how they do in three different razors that need a little more love:

Birth Quarter Tech, Birth Quarter Super Speed (y3), and the New LC.

Each razor will see the Feather, Gillette Platinum Plus, and Wilkinson Sword. The Tech will also get the Rapira Super Stainless since I haven't used that blade in the Tech so far. The other aspects of the shave will be as the whim hits me, but aside from the soap, are likely to be pretty consistent. I'm going to work through the razors from mildest to most aggressive. Here is the rotation I plan at this point:

Birth Quarter Tech - Rapira Super Stainless, GPP, Wilkinson Sword, Feather
Birth Quarter SS - Feather, GPP, Wilkinson Sword
NEW LC - Wilkinson Sword, GPP, Feather.

I hope everyone has a great month!

And while on the subject, do y'all tend to post SOTD's here or over there? I'm leaning toward there, but keeping the gritty details here.
For instance, I used Shave Secret preshave oil & C.O.Bigelow cream needed more water to get slick, and clung to my blade. Anyone have issues with that?

  4. I'm glad you like it. They are great shavers. Have fun!
  5. Wow. I had no idea it took so much time and effort. (I've never truly shaved my scalp.)

    Have a terrific Tuesday!

  7. Glad you're back, Troy! Good luck with your blade trial!
  8. Me too! You changed my results for the better with the no-stress Baseball pattern! Thanks!
  9. You're exactly right, a straight kinda screams at you for a millisecond before you bleed. Despite the scary appearance, I am finding straights to be quite forgiving and comfortable.
  10. Nice razor! ;)

Thanks for contributing so much about New Forest. It's a brand not often talked about here, and it was cool to see your analysis and the evolution of the product. Thanks for hanging out with us!
  11. Beautiful straight. Simply beautiful.

    @ob1page @J.R.

Whipped dog was my first SR shave true. Keith is right in recommending it.
  12. Welcome Back! Sounds like a fun month!
  13. Ahh, I've been using a similar technique.
Should it be called the @Norcalnewb Baseball Pattern?
  14. Welcome to the 30 Day Crew!

I am a big proponent of the strict rule for learning. It eliminates variables and allows you to break the technique down for ease of analysis. Many if us here have mastered and love the Fatboy, And by 30 March, you are going to master it also. I look forward to watching it happen!
  15. It should, and I've been openly crediting him on multiple threads. So simple, so smart.
  16. @ob1page - welcome aboard! Good luck with that Gillette, it's a classic!
  17. Thanks for the support! I am looking forward to learning the ins and outs of this iconic razor!
  18. Thank you Sir! Welcome back, looks as if you've planned quite the month. Good luck, and I anticipate great results!
  19. I or things I have said have been described as simple many times, smart not so much.

I am definitely happy that this works for you, Chris and @RyX. It really is just how I seem to relate lots of things, and seemed natural to me here, so it did just simply pop out.
