I finally finished with this 'big chunk of cast steel wedge'". This Stub Tail was much trickier that many other razors I've honed. First problem was that this is about as full of a wedge as possible. It needed two strips of tape, to get the correct bevel angle. Then, it had a chip in the edge, about 3/4 of the way, towards the heel. No biggie, it just took time to set the bevel, past it, to get a clean bevel. I've seen worse. This took a while. I next noticed that the blade was a little wonky, one side of the heel didn't want to touch the stones, this required a little torqueing and pressure. Then the toe end, on both sides, needed pressure, to get it to touch, on both sides. Yada Yada Yada, it took a while, but it worked. I did my usual progression, King 1k, Unknown 3k/8k, Welsh Slate Stones 8k 12k 15k. then, to finish it off, I used my new Arkansas Surgical Black Oilstone. 200 laps on that, brought the edge to where it felt shave ready, off the stones. I then stropped it up. The shave will be the tell.
