  1. Thanks Adam, it's a great soap.
  2. Today’s razor is Crandall Cut Co with obnoxious orange scales. Decided to keep the momentum going on the never ending tub of RazoRock Lime, and used my Great, Great, Grandfather’s brush which has the stiffest bristles of any of my brushes. This brush is fun to use. I soused the soap will I showered, and soaked the brush. It’s hard to load from a quarter inch wide ring of soap, but I realized this was going to be the last shave with this soap. I had enough lather to degrease a driveway, but I removed it all with a brush!

This razor was in pretty bad shape when I got it. The scales were broken and wrapped, and the blade had some chips. I farmed out the honing, and left the patina, then later replaced the scales with these ones off another razor. The Crandall family were involved and intermarried with several companies in Little Valley, New York including Cattarangus, Platts (Western States,) Robeson, and W. R. Case & Sons. The edge on this razor is just as good as any of those companies provide, and the small size makes it very nimble. Three passes and a high grade DFS.

  6. Thanks Clint. It was nice to have a "real shave" this morning.

I'm leaning toward a shavette focus with a Parker SRX. How about joining me sometime after the first of the year? It could be fun! They're fairly inexpensive, so no big deal if you decide later that shavettes are not for you. On the bright side, it could be the gateway to a whole new set of ADs. :happy088:

    As someone once wisely said...

  8. That is a fantastic brush! But "Great, Great, Grandfather’s brush"? Heck , my old man was born in 1916!
  9. How about a photo Toby?

  10. I found a strop, straight, a babrber’s hone, and this brush in an old trunk at my grandmother’s house. He died in 1924, and the house was built 19217. Seven generations of my family have lived in that house. I had the razor restored, and the brush cleaned up, sealed, and a new knot put in it. I like using the brush and other items, because of the feeling of history.

  11. @jimjo1031 actually did the restore in the brush. Here’s the thread: http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/hardright-brush-conservation.55436/#post-1231859
  12. SOTD December 23, 2017

    Prep: Stirling mentholated pre-shave soap
    Blade: GEM stainless
    Razor: GEM G-bar
    Brush: Stirling Kong synthetic
    Lather: Stirling Scots Pine Sheep
Post: Witch hazel, Stirling Ozark Mountain aftershave
    WTG, XTG

Very nice shave. Used my new Stirling Kong brush that I won in the raffle. It was graciously gifted by @Boojum1. What a brush - good grief! It's huge with a big, heavy handle. Maybe this will allow me to go through some soaps a little faster.

Anyway, it's always nice to come home and shave in your own den. Have a great day!
