After poor initial Shaves with the ATT SE G1 that I so want to like, I decided that it is most likely too mild for me. I decided to contact ATT, and Stan very quickly got back to me. He confirmed that I have got a Version 2, and as most people get on with it, there are no plans for any further modifications. He like me thought it was a beard thing, and suggested to increase aggressiveness a shim under the blade might help.
Not really what you want from an expensive buy, but then I have had similar problems with the Sabre T1, and the Supply SE. My beard is a bit heavy and strong. I used to have problems in recruit stage of my Service career, being often made to have a second Shave after parade, I was for many years a Two a Day Shaver. So really my beard growth is not your average.
Having a sleepless night I played around with shims - 1/2 spine and injector blade both work but need a bit of metal taking off. I made a plastic one from material taken from a Personna/Gem 100 blade container

. A few hours later well lathered with Vitos Red I decided to give it a try.
I must admit that I started cautiously, but two strokes in it was obvious that though the Razor was still smooth, there was a nice degree of blade feel combined with efficiency. I am very pleased with the ease and quality of the finished Shave in which no mishaps occurred, nor were there any post shave problems.
For me it would appear that the modern S/S Gem Razors, are no match for many Vintage SE that I use with the need for assistance. Yesterdays Shave with an ER Streamline was superb, but I have in the past said that the likes of the Natural Angle/G Bar may well suit someone with a lighter beard than mine.
