February 9, 2018- Fatboy Friday Razor: F2 Gillette 195 Adjustable (5) Blade: Gillette Platinum Plus Brush: 30DC LE/Pure Badger Cream: Simpson Luxury Cream Post: Alum, Listerine, WH It's been a hectic last couple of days, so time for a bit of catch up. Wednesday was another shave with the Yaqi DOC and Thursday was a no-shave day. It's Friday, though, so time for the Fatboy, a nice sharp blade, and a TARDIS full of lather. Two passes to a very nice BBS with no issues. If I shave tomorrow, it will probably be with an Injector. My Baili razor (generic version of the Razorock DE1) is supposed to arrive tomorrow, so it should get a initial run on Sunday or Monday.
I'll need to go a ways back to recall who I traded with to get the soap. From a German maker, Klar has been producing soap for 170+ years. It's veg oil based, but you wouldn't know it from the lather. Not an inexpensive product but I'd say it's economical. Some French soap are hard pucks for their triple milling. This is quintuple milled - the small tins are all product with little water. I've only used this one scent - Mandel, or in English - Almond. If you like the scent of Cella, think way more. There's Classic scent; spice & leather, sandalwood, and lemongrass. From what I read Kabinett scent is discontinued.
Thank you Bruce. Just a pile of humble shave supplies. You're stack of Ivory gear got a nomination for a calendar shot! Thank you Jim! I was thinking of a question someone asked about why I prefer E-4 Fat boys. I had a BY (1st quarter of '61), but I liked the feel of the shaves from this one more. Plus the bottom cap has those little holes that make disassembly possible. Unfortunately in reducing the size of the photo it got "crunchy" and lost some of the details. So I lens blurred the outer edges using Snapseed app.
Gillette Adjustable Friday SOTD 2.9.2018 Face (24 hrs) & Head (4 days) Shave Pre-shave: hot shower Brush: RazoRock synthetic Soap: VDH Deluxe Razor: Gillette P-1 adjustable Blade: Feather Post-shave: Assured WH, Nivea Men Sensitive PS Balm, P&G Old Spice AS We have been getting snow the last couple of days, but it's finally tampering off and the sun has been peeking out the last couple of hours. It's quite cold today.... been in the single digit range for a high. I was going to use a Stirling soap today but at the last minute I grabbed the mug with the VDH deluxe soap. I nearly forgot how well this soap lathers, and the how soft it feels as I brush it on my face. When I first started this "hobby" I used this soap nearly everyday... or the Luxury variety... until I started building my collection. I have a couple of Gillette black beauties and they were feeling neglected. I gave the 195 a Friday off and deployed the P-1. During the head shave I had it dialed in at 9, and when I moved on to the face I did one stroke at 9 then adjusted to 5. The 5 was a much wiser choice. Comfortable but close. I didn't realize until after the picture-taking and putting things away that I goofed and grabbed the W.S. sleeve with a W.S. blade for the picture. My routine is to take out the blade, clean it, dry it and for safety reasons secure it in its sleeve until the next use. I do not know how many shaves is on this Feather. It's got to be around 10. But it's still slicing through my hair as if it were brand new. I'll keep using it. Enjoy your weekend, my friends!
February 8 Parker SRX shavette Gillette Silver Blue (2) Simpson Chubby 2 Super Castle Forbes Lavender shaving cream Alum, Thayers Lavender witch hazel, unrefined shea butter, and Terre d’Hermès Parfum No shave today (February 9th) in order to let a nick that I keep re-opening on my chin heal. Yesterday's two pass plus touch up shave with the Parker SRX was the best so far. I paid extra attention to proper blade positioning on my lower neck and shaved WTG instead of ATG on my first pass. Using a shavette forces me to slow down, focus on the basics, and enjoy the shaving experience. Right now, it adds 5 to 10 minutes to the morning routine. The Parker SRX provides a Ritz-Carlton shave at Best Western prices.
