I played bassoon, flute, and sideline percussion (marching band), but I decided not to use it as a career. Military band was definitely an option for the bassoon - Immediately out of basic as an E3.

Exciting! I wish her the best of luck. Keep us updated when you can!

Most of my students don’t continue with music past high school. So it’s very exciting to have someone audition for scholarships but doubly exciting that she wants to be a music educator! Great job, Jared, in enabling her to pursue her dreams.

    EverReady 1912 SE / Gem PTFE (? )
Semogue Owners Club cherrywood boar brush
    TSD Lavender lanolin soap
Alum and TSD Milk Aftershave Lavender

I got a decent lather from the Semogue boar brush today. The key seems to be that I wet the brush immediately before use but did not soak it. It maintained enough stiffness to load the soap and then paint the lather on my face in a halfway decent fashion. Still pretty pathetic when an apparently thickly stuffed boar brush has less backbone than a badger... And I notice it has been shedding some hairs the last few uses...

I did two fairly rapid passes today. The 1912 handled nimbly and the alum was silent afterwards. The result is just a CCS though - not as close as I normally get with two passes with my DEs or injectors. I wonder if the blade had hung around too long? On the chance that might have been the problem, I banked it. Fresh blades are too plentiful and cheap to waste another shave on one that might be past its prime.

    Great pic.

I'm with you on blades, too cheap and plentiful to tolerate substandard results.

Thanks, Perry. You already know this, but both my kids are going to be music teachers. It is odd because neither I nor my wife are musicians of any sort. We have a really strong music program at our school district, but I think it speaks volumes about our band directors that they were able to have such a profound impact on our kids.

Holy crap! I inspired someone!

Now you're just enabling. As a fan of Cella, you're making me want to try the Stirling Almond.

I couldn't possible agree more with your comments on the Thater. It's quite a luxurious knot. Thanks again for recommending it.

Best of luck to your daughter in the upcoming weeks. Hopefully she'll get some good scholarship offers. It sounds like it'll be a busy week, but hopefully you'll all get to have some fun as well.

    BTW....love that razor!!! :)

That is too bad about your brush. The last two I bought would not ever stop shedding, so I pretty much gave up on the brand.

Great pic John. I agree with you on the blades. No extra points for letting them hang around to long.
