What a wonderful day in STL! I think our high was 18F, and we had about an inch of snow during the afternoon just to remind us it's winter. Glad we didn't forget. Time to close out the day with the final run for the Vi-John Super Platinum blade trial. Slim on the wide open 9 and I chose my Wolf Whiskers custom brush to finish it out. I have gotten tied down to my synthetics so I decided I needed some badger love. It's like muskrat love, only it snarls more.
Now that we have that out of the way.............the lather was typical fantastic Arko and the blade was very smooth on all three passes tonight. I mentioned on one of the nights with this blade that I think I prefer it to the Super Stainless version and I'll stand by that. I felt like on the SS that the blade might be getting a little tired on the third shave but tonight's shave didn't give me that impression at all with the SP. I do prefer Platinum to Stainless coatings so that's probably all there is to explaining that. The finish was a nice BBS and the alum was just beginning to have a little warmth to it. Either the wide open setting caused that or perhaps the blade is a bit tired. Either way, it wasn't bad at all so it didn't detract from a really fine shave.
Both Vi-John blades performed nearly flawlessly. As I've said, these aren't the world's sharpest but they are smooth and effective and can definitely get the job done. For the price they're definitely a bargain. I wouldn't hesitate to use them.
A break from trials tomorrow as I want to revisit the theme(s) for the month! More on that tomorrow. Have a great Monday!!
