  1. I love that auto grinder, Bill. So far, I've been too tight to purchase one. The manual one does provide a bit of a workout, so I don't use it much. Don't tell anyone, but we mostly purchase ground coffee.

I like the "science" of it and the learning as well. Being a manufacturing guy, I assume you have the statistical process control charts to back up your claim of making your cups "EXACTLY the same." I would expect to see SPC charts on grind size, water temp, contact time, trace impurities in the coffee & water, and of course calibration charts for your scale and temperature probe. While you're reviewing your data and responding to any out-of-control points, I'm heading up to make a pot using my 'eyeball' method. Time's a wastin' and no coffee's a brewin'. ;)

I love the Aeropress...may have to try one of those eventually myself. Have a great day, my friend.

  2. I am a morning coffee person, and without gunking up the thread with OT stuff, it is a topic i am interested in.
What is your preferred method, Which bean and how do you take it?

I use a french press when i have fresh coffee because i can't afford fancy expresso machines!
Most other times, it is instant from a jar :prrr:

I should do the coffee-pilgrimage thing and go through all of the various ways of making it to find the one i like best (much like shaving huh) But, kids, house, wife, time, money etc are always front of the queue.

  4. Jon, I think the coffee rabbit hole is every bit as deep as this shaving thing. We've tried a handful of different coffees in the past year, and this one is probably our favorite: https://www.peets.com/coffee/signature-blends/major-dickason-s-blend You can find it pre-ground and on sale most everywhere here.

99.5% of our coffee is made in the Bonavita. Every now and then, I'll use our French Press and manual grinder. I'm limited on too much experimentation, because I don't want to mess with my Bride's coffee. I may look dumb, but... :)

We had a Keurig for a few years (easy and fast; the pre-packaged coffee was expensive), and it was OK. I still drink a few Keurig cups a month - several relatives have them and one of our local businesses here has one for its customers. I never turn down a free cup. :)

For 30+ years, it was mostly drip coffee at work from the local department's pot...very often Maxwell House and Folgers pre-packaged ground coffee. I used to tell my comrades that Folgers tasted like it has been strained through dirty gym socks as I guzzled it down by the gallon. I think it had more to do with the sawdust filler. However, it was free and within reach, see the preceding paragraph.

  5. Having been affiliated with an ISO certified organization I am most familiar with the paper shuffle.

However, had I kept up with all of the requirements for documentation, I'd still be in search of ways to keep the ISO folks happy and missing out on all this great coffee..... always the same, every cup, by a simple craftsman like routine.

  7. Is the Bonavita a drip machine (a percolator as we say in Europe)? I dunno about using one of those, i wouldn't be making more than a few mugs of coffee at a time, Certainly not enough for those 8 cup monsters lol.

Peets has some good info about making coffee! i will use their advice for my french press. It sounds good advice. I like Italian blend coffee's and a Columbia bean.

We used to have a drip machine at work :sick007:.
However, we have had a recent upgrade and we now have $$$$$$ expresso machine with Lavazza coffee which is lovely!

Good luck with the CBD. I know lots of people who it helps :)

  8. Thank you, Doug. I hope it is working for you, my friend.
  9. Thanks Jon. I appreciate the confirmation on the CBD oil. There seems to be enough anecdotal evidence floating around to proceed. We were waiting for the green light from my Bride's oncologist (she's a two-time cancer survivor) on potential risks and downsides, and he gave the all clear.

The Bonavita is called a "pour over" coffee maker. Water is poured over the coffee grounds via a manifold, of sorts, for even distribution. In reality, it's a fancy drip coffee maker. It brews up to 40 ounces at a time. That's about 4 cups in my house. I wish it were larger as we often make a second pot.

Congrats on the expresso machine at work. I joke with the nurses at the hospital where I volunteer. The hospital installed fruit "slushie" (frozen sweet drink) machines for the kids. I tell them that if my employer installed one of these things, I would not have retired. :) (It's a been a while since I've sampled one, BTW. I gave up the blue slushies a long time ago. I got tired of the staff laughing at my blue lips. Red is the way to go if you hope to fly under the radar.)

    Good morning guys!
    Rockwell 6C Plate 6
    Rockwell DE (1)
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
Music City Lavender SS and AS
    Nivea Men's ASB(not pictured)
The Rocky Brush did a great job lathering this soap. It is the second time that I sm using it. The soap has a smoky lavender scent that makes it appropriate for the cold months. It is a very slick soap. I like the performance better than my initial try with it. However, I probably will use it all year round just like all my other soaps. The Rockwell razor with the Rockwell blade gave me a nice BBS shave with 2 passes. Finished with the matching aftershave and Nivea's ASB. Have a great morning fellas! 20190926_215947.jpg 20190926_215947.jpg

  11. :signs011: I was pummeled with statistics and variability studies in manufacturing, and it only got worse when I started working with analytical chemists and interacting with customers. In proper situations, it is useful, but I'm all for craftsman-style coffee...and plenty of it. Sometimes you had to elbow your way through the engineers and chemists to grab a cup. Enjoy, and thanks for the Aeropress recommendation. :)

    Good morning!

Wonderful shave to start the day! Three passes for near BBS. Silent alum.

Seventh shave on this blade. I normally swap Gems after six. The blade struggled through passes two and three but I can't argue the result. Feeling good and smelling good!

    Have a great day! [IMG]
