1. I also have this one on the way soon, useful for honing the really wonky ones. Nakayama asagi according to the stamps and vendor, who is reliable. Hopefully it’s finisher grade.

  2. Won this ugly barber size on Yahoo auctions for $79, though it will be closer to $130 after fees and shipping. It looks like a deep layer stone from the yellowish orange skin patches, and it looks pure. Always a gamble, but I am looking forward to seeing it in person. Vendor’s images.

  3. I don’t believe that I’ve posted this one, certainly not with the black cashew on it. It’s a tenjou (upper suita) shiro suita, and can finish a razor though it is not the best razor finisher, it’s more of a knife hone and metal polisher (at which it excels). They’re also great at removing the honyama burr after Jnat finishing, 4-5 strokes on a dry stone like this will boost the HHT a bit. I got some good weather for cashew curing, and I’ve always thought that these white stones looked really nice with black lacquer on them. The smaller piece has been around a while

  4. Gorgeous looking stone Steve. I agree, that white with black contrast makes for a stunning stone.

  5. Got this one in today, no one seemed to want it, maybe because of the flaked out area. But the back was flat enough to sand and lap it to a good surface. It’s very fast, not that hard, and fineness TBD.

The only problem is that it seems a little bit small ...

  8. In reading from their site, The Moon Stone(La Lune) you ordered reminds me of the PURPLE LLYN MELYNLLYN(12k) stone I have, from AJ's "Welsh Slate Stones" he sells on EBay. Right down to the green spots in the stone.
Get to honing, so we can see the characteristics of your new stone.
  9. I took a shave ready Gold Monkey, made a few passes on a suita to raise a kasumi finish, then did 15 passes at blade weight on the La Lune using glycerin and water. That removed the kasumi almost entirely, maybe 85+%, and left a nice bright polish. So it’s no typical slate. it’s fast like a barber hone. The HHT was excellent, in or out, maybe not quite as good as the best Jnat, but this is a Gold Monkey and I’m just foolin’ around at this point.
  10. Found this little ark at an antique store today and couldn’t pass it up.

  11. Just got a Norton India Combination Stone. One side red, the other side darker. Just gotta figure out the coarser side from the finer side. Lol https://ibb.co/bQG7yXk
  12. The red side is finer.

  14. Just scored myself a Coticule 6”x1-3/4”. Before and after surfacing. Only took a few minutes on my DMT.

I have 2 other Coti’s but they are only 4”x1”

  15. This is one of those stones, that as soon as you pick it up you know it’s going to be something good. From the market, a Coticule, sitting alone, all covered in funk and grease. When I first picked it up, it felt like a hunk of lead. A vintage, possibly deep rock natural combo, graciously large, heavy, old school thick, measuring in at 5 3/4 x 2 5/8 x 1 3/16 and weighs 840 grams. Lost some thickness lapping out divots, but a nice hard stone appeared out from the gunk. Tamed the diamond agitated garnets with a few slurry treatments. Coticule is fast and feels like you're honing on velvet. Very smooth super keen Coti edge were all looking for
