I have ran across a few English Aluminum Techs but never one that was in nice enough condition for a decent price for me to pick up. Well that has changed, I just picked up this nice English Gillette Aluminum Tech etched top cap weight 30 grams with the more rare from my research off white styrene case. ( Guys please feel free if anyone has any information on the off white styrene cases for these razors). It’s my understanding from what little I have found out there that the blue, burgundy/maroon and black bottom cases were more common. Happy Shaves To Everyone, Bill G
I have been collecting Gillette razors since 2008. I have quite a few of them now and someday if I find the right display cabinet that will work in our house I might get around to displaying them. Happy Shaves, Bill G
“the right display cabinet that will work in our house “ note the words “right” and “our”. The larger your collection gets the harder it becomes to find a display that SWMBO approves of outside of some space in the basement or garage. Having just a few out at a time in rotation is easier plus it doesn’t look like you have a hoarding problem when you have several versions of the same razor. SWMBO just doesn’t understand why I need 7 Schick Golden 500s that all look the same to her.
And all I was looking for was the one that shaved the best, with the right blade, using the nicest shaving soap and finished off with the best smelling aftershave lotion. Well that ain't easy.
cool score.i recently purchased this pinky swirl cased version.i also acquired an NOS coronation set with the same razor as your new set.cograts.
That’s a sweet score and some very nice razors you have there. Gillette must have had several case options/packaging styles with this model razor. Thanks for sharing. Bill G
they had many different sets with this alumium razor, and in many countries. i've seen only one other set with this weird pinkish case,so quite rare maybe..i know the blue case is the most common.they are normally refered to as the #24 set. this set is also all brass/nickel plate.
Yes, I did some research and the information you posted I ran across concerning these razors. There is also a posting on Badger & Blade discussing the styrene plastic cases from the 1950’s for the Gillette Tech razors. The blue according to this thread if I remember correctly is the most common as you mentioned. There was also a burgundy/maroon color a black and the off white cream color like mine in the styrene plastic case’s during that time. * One of the pic’s from that thread below about the cases from the 1950’s showing the burgundy/maroon & blue options. So many things happened with Gillette razors. We could get lost in the rabbit hole of the history known and not completely known.. Crazy.. Lol Bill G

Case color was often dependent on the country of sale. South American razors, Argentina in particular came in green cases. Yellow was France, maroon was Germany, red was Canada, Blue was Britain, etc. Not 100% of the time, but in general. I think there were times when it just boiled down to whatever color was cheapest at the time.
