http://www.mediafire.com/view/myfiles/#ypj4vhv9e2homkc The razor hit my nail cracked it and made i bleed and gashed my knuckle any one got a modern razor that has a great grip?
Great handle and reasonably priced. I like the way it shaves but a lot of guys buy it for the handle alone. http://theshaveden.com/forums/threads/i-received-a-monster-in-the-mail.37592/
I'd just get an aftermarket handle for it like an iKon bulldog or RazoRock, something that's stainless steel and has nice deep knurling making your grip feel like spider-man on a wall.
Merkur 34C or 34G. I have used both the 34C and DE89L, and the Merkur does have the better grip. You could also email Edwin Jagger and let them know about the issue. At the very least, the feedback would help them identify a problem, and possibly work on a solution. Edwin Jagger does make the DE89KN14bl with a knurled handle, the DE89BA11 with a barley pattern handle, and the DE3D14bl 3D laser diamond knurled handle.
No worries! Gorilla tape can fix anything. Put a bit of this on the handle and a wrap or two around your paw hand and you'll not drop that razor ever again! If it's good enough to patch holes in the wing of Air Force One, it'll handle anything!
That is pretty cool, and should make the razor a lot less slippery. It's kinda like a Wilkinson Sticky, and just as beautiful IMHO. The Edwin Jagger and Muhle handles appear to use stamped sheet metal, with any texturing also made by stamping. That would make it difficult to have a really grippy textured surface like a Merkur or vintage Gillette. It looks like EJ is evolving their designs to fix what was their one shortcoming.
There's also the o-ring solution: Take your handle to the plumbing section of a home center and find the size o-ring that will snugly fit you handle. You can buy a box or bag for a couple of bucks. Cover as much of your current handle with good, grippy o-rings as suits your shaving style. Voila! A low-cost solution you could apply while waiting for your replacement handle. (and a fat +1 on the Utopia handle. In fact, I like the Utopia razor as well as my EJ! ... though, apparently, some did not fare so well on the quality of the Utopia head... but you can't go wrong with that handle! )
A plump +2 to add to the fat +1. Very nice grip on the Utopia and it is (was) quite affordable. Just be glad you didn't drop a straight razor on your hands. I've seen pics of some nasty boo-boos from shavers trying to catch falling straight razors— a bad idea!
Only problem is going from EJ quality to Mekur quality may be a bit of a disappointment. Merkur may have the sloppiest QA in the world of razors
Merkur quality has gone down the drain? They used to be pretty good a few years back. I got a 34C in 2009 that had a tiny blemish on the very top of the razor, but it was very minor. The quality was otherwise top-notch and the razor shaves very well with the right blades. The only reason I bought a DE89 was because it looked stunning. I got slightly better shaves from the DE89, so I switched to it instead of the Merkur. Needless to say, the fit and finish on the DE89 is flawless. The overall quality differential between the two razors is minor, at least for the two I own.
