That is my favorite stick soap. Great performer. Don't confuse it with the Wilkinson round soap which is a horrible performer.
I like Jay's idea of trying some new things. I think for the beginning of December I'm going to try two new things. Merkur "1904" OC - New to me 7 O'Clock SharpEdge blades - New to me Anybody got an idea how the 1904 shaves?
That doesn't make sense at all. I wonder why they don't just make the round cakes from the same soap as the sticks. After all, it is only a matter of the molds used. It might be good to let Wilkinson know. Most manufacturers appreciate the feedback.
I read that somewhere as I was debating. So I only bought the sticks. Got two from Connaught Shaving, with postage from the UK to Michigan at only £0.28 (45 cents)!!
I think, just to finish this endeavor on a high note, we should post a pic of our intended December 1 lineup. Jay already did this, so here's mine. My stand-by Proraso Green Semogue brush (new to me) Merkur '1904' (used, but, new to me) 7 O'Clock Yellow SharpEdge blades (new to me) Barbasol AS (from the wife). Happy Thanksgiving!!!!
Thanks! I've always liked the look of this razor, but knew nothing about it. Nobody seems to talk about it much. I saw one on B&B's BST and snapped it up. Really looking forward to trying it.
Not only does WS not use the same formula in the shaving round, they also add silicone to make it slicker. If WS used the formula that they used in the shaving stick in the shaving round, they would not need to add silicone. I can't explain why they do this.
Still in it! Another Great Shave! See my post on SOTD! <a href="http://theshaveden.com/forums/threa...14-november-30-2014.41533/page-12#post-752120">SoS: November 24, 2014 - November 30, 2014</a>
This my planned shave for tomorrow. Getting an early start for a Sunday, my turn to help serve breakfast at the Church. I have to say, if we do this again next year, I will certainly be part of it. Dave
To all who participated in this project, whether you started and had to leave or you managed to finish, I say "thanks" for all the advice, the great pics, the stimulating discussions and just plain fun. I never thought shaving with just one setup for the entire month would be a good thing, but I think I've learned much from those who helped me on the way. My last few days shaves have been outstanding, very comfortable, close and very enjoyable. I even managed to get 5 shaves out of my last Astra SP! Here's to those brave few who gave it a try...
It feels strange that today will be the last day. I have become so comfortable with this set up. My technique with the Pils has improved 200% which I didn't think was possible. I learned that I can use a Wilkinson Sword blade for way more than 3 shaves more like 5 or 6. The more I use the blade the more comfortable it seems to be. One confession. No matter what I do the same thing happens every time. After the first pass there is hardly any lather on the brush. I go back to the puck and it explodes with lather for three passes. Strange. I get great lather for all passes, but it seems a strange quirk I can't get that quantity of lather the first time. It has been a great learning experience and I hope to take part again next year.
December 1's Planned Shave Nivea for Men Sensitive Face Wash Tabac Shaving Soap Omega Pro 49 boar brush (new to me) Schick Krona (new to me) Feather Hi-Stainless (new to me) CWR, Asma Alum Block Thayers Lemon WH Pinaud Vegetal (new to me)
Ahhh. Done at last. The past 30 days have been enlightening, and I definitely improved my technique. It will be interesting to see how I adapt to a different razor and setup tomorrow.
