I just got into wet shaving recently (mainly head wet shaving as I have a beard). Anyway, sort of a silly question but should shaving soaps be covered immediately after use or should they be allowed to dry before capping them? Thanks!
I used to just close them up right away, but recently I have allowed them to dry, I have no idea what changed=P I just started doing it
I cover mine. In fact I made little lids for three of mine so I can stack them. You should introduce yourself on the Newbie Forum to get a proper welcome. Glad that you landed here at TSD. I let mine dry, I've been told they can develop mold. As a side benefit when I shave with Arko, my wife says the bathroom smells very clean.
I put the lid back on when I'm done, unless the soap requires otherwise. I believe MDC recommends keeping the cover off until the soap dries.
I'm kinda OCD with my soap, so I rinse them out, pat them dry, and wipe off any residue, and let them air dry while I clean up the rest of my gear after I'm done shaving. I don't want to end up with soup instead of soap.
I do both, sometimes I'll recover the container(Ziploc) right after use and sometimes I'll let the soap sit out for the day or even longer. I have seen no difference in soap performance. Although the scent strength will many times dissipate if the soap is left exposed to the air. I do this with my hard soaps, with my croaps I recover the container immediately after use.
I've done both. I cover the one I have a cover for. the others I rinse off and turn them up-side-down. they dry bottoms up on the edge of the vanity.
I tend to favor hard soaps for the most part, and I've found that loading my brush from a hard soap is much easier when I put a bit of water on top and let it soak while I'm in the shower. After a while, I just left the top of the soap wet and put the lid on. It's softer when I open it the next time. Unless there are specific directions from the maker, I'd do what suits you best. Welcome! I generally keep a lid on it...my shaving soap, that is. Otherwise, I have flipped my lid. I also keep my shave soaps in containers with threaded lids. I've never had a problem placing the lid on a container right after I finish shaving.
