August Focus - Slim and Feather AC August 30 Razor - Feather SS AC Blade - Brush - BoS Omega 10066 Soap - MItchell's Wool Fat Post - Cold water, Alum, Aqua Velva Musk Well the end of the month has arrived. This is my 30th shave for the month so ending the focus on the Feather. Tomorrow will be a "free shave" and my next focus begins on Tuesday the 1st. Closing out on the BoSFat combo too. I almost want to just spend the day making lather with these two. Such a great pair and I love the scent of the Fat. That light soapy scent just says "clean" and SWMBO likes it too. Makes the shave extra special. Went two passes with the Feather. First pass is just an automatic process now WTG. I have the Japanese style down, using only my right hand and turning to use the same edge of the razor. Feels very natural and, in fact, if I try a left hand pass on the left side it turns all kinds of awkward. XTG is still a bit weak but I can manage it so I will just keep at it on the days I use the Feather until it's automatic as well. Did a third pass with my '59 Super Speed and a Bic. Mostly touch up of the neck. Nothing major. Best news...no cuts, nicks, wounds, bleeding arteries or any other life-threatening injuries. A great way to end the month. Another thanks to @Keithmax for the CJB that started me down this path. It's been a great experience and will only get better I'm sure!
The what bowl? Ha! Let's talk again when your home team wins a REAL championship like this one: 2015 LFL Champs Seattle Mist !!!
Pinaud is a must-try, and an essential component of Barber Shop scent as it relates to actual Barber shops. Talc and Barbicide also figure prominently.
I am staying with the Feather blade focus through August by continuing to use the last blade for five days. Today was day four and I still like it. SOTD Schick Krona Feather (2) AOS Shave Oil TOBS Coconut Cream AOS AS Balm WSP Beard Oil Pinaud Bay Rum (Now I smell like an old man that has been eating Coconut Cream Pie) This was another irritation free BBS with the Feather. If I can figure out how to get by day one, I might keep the Feather in my rotation. Happy Sunday!
The Mist? Ummmmm, yeah I'm going to avoid comment but hey, apparently football is king in any league in Seattle. Now, just imagine Richard Sherman in the LFL uniform. Yeah, you're welcome.
Come on now. Yes it's a real team, they play at the SAP Center. I have never been to a game nor watched on TV. Yay SaberCats!!
Yeah you sound like a diehard fan Anyway, I'm happy that SJ has a great curling team now. Go CyberCats!
The only reason I knew was because I get up early and watch the news. Not like some who sleep in on Sunday's...
Razor: Gillette Slim (1965)(7) Blade: Gillette Platinum (7) Brush: Whipped Dog Silver Tip Badger, Olivewood Handle (24/67) Soap: The Shave Den Coconut A/S: The Shave Den Coconut Day 30 Adjustable August: The three razors I used this month are, Gillette Executive Gold Fat Boy (F1- 1960), Gillette Adjustable Fat Boy (G3-1961), and Gillette Slim (Adjustable (K4-1965). I used the Gillette Platinum Blade throughout August. I found that for me #7 setting was the best for all three razors. I liked the Gillette FB best followed by the Gillette Executive, and Gillette Slim. The main different for me was the feel of the handle. The FB's just felt better in my handle and I suppose made me more confident in my shaves. TSD Coconut is an excellent shaving soap and the container is one of the few that leaves enough room from the top of the soap to the top of the container to allow you to whip up a great lathe without having it all over the counter top. I also dabbled a bit with shave creams and learned that I like them also.
Day 29 - 30 August 2015 30 Day Rule - Phoenix OC Inaugural Shave Den Sunday! Best shave this month! Broke out some preshave balm to get the freeze going, Alum was good, finished with some TSD 2x Iced FW Style AS. Another hot Sunday on the prairie. Other than that...all is quiet in Colorado. Have a sterling Monday!
August 31 Shave 20 Last shave of the August focus. I have a big 'social' engagement tonight so I will need to shave again before I go out so I did just 3 passes with the straight and called it quits. Everything went smoothly, just one tiny weeper under my chin. Apply the alum and success no irritation.... but just short of DFS. So I know what my focus needs to be next month. 1959 E3 Gillette Fat Boy on 6 Vulfix Super Badger (660) Georgetown G12 Scuttle Noxzema Proraso Sandalwood cream Pinaud Clubman Shave #2 with the Shark Super Chrome stainless steel in my '59 Fat Boy set to 6. Paid attention to the angle and once again tried to ride the edge of the cap. 2 Full passes: Pass 1 WTG on my face and XTG on my neck. Pass 2: ATG. Comfortable shave. A DFS at this point. After my two passes, I did two cold water rinse and touch ups. This is the only blade I've done that with, but even after I rinsed following my second touch up, I still felt some slight stubble in a couple of my trouble spots. I applied the Pinaud Clubman. It yelled briefly at me, then went silent. Another smooth and comfortable shave from the Shark Super Chrome. Even though I did two targeted touch ups, I just couldn't get a couple of my trouble spots. Near BBS, but not quite what some of my other blades have been able to achieve. This is the last shave of my August Focus. This month I have been exploring various blades to try to find the ones that work well in the razors I have and more importantly, give me consistently close and comfortable shaves in each of them. I started out August by wrapping up July blade trials in my Super Speed. On August 10, I switched gears and embraced Adjustable August with my Fat Boy. I started with a setting of 4, but a week later pushed it to 6 where it has remained. The Fat Boy has seen 8 blades this month. I will run one more blade through it as part of my September blade focus which will incorporate 4 days with the Fat Boy and 24 days with my Gillette Techs. Of the blades I’ve tried, these are the ones that I will be running through the Gillette Techs: Astra Superior Platinum Rapira Swedish Supersteel Gillette Silver Blue Personna Platinum (Israeli Reds) Gillette 7 O’clock Super Platinum (Black) Lord Platinum class And one other I will decide on later. It has been a real pleasure hanging out with you guys and talking shaving and sharing in shenanigans! I have learned a lot from your excellent posts and those of many others in our friendly TSD community. I Hope you will join me for the September rule/focus, and we’ll see each other on the other side soon!
