$1.99 just up the road - and that means I have won a bet with a friend who swore publicly that it would never fall below $2 again :happy108

10-27-08...$2.29 a gallon in Columbus, OH

I think it is good to put our prices down...maybe we will look back someday and be surprised we paid so much for a gallon of gas.

Well, here's to optimistic thought anyway...

And the cheaper it gets, the more people forget that oil is NOT a renewable resource, and the further we get from a viable alternative....

    I dunno about that. :)

The people that are really interested in viable alternatives are still interested. It's just the fair weather fans who lose interest.

Unfortunately, money talks and "the other stuff" doesn't. We're setting records in the use of public transportation in North Texas, but I'm willing to bet that those numbers diminish rapidly as the price of petroleum products stays at or below the current range. I'm betting that the core group of folks "that are really interested in viable alternatives" is remarkably small.

An interesting theory was recently brought to my attention: The recently discovered financial crisis (which, in large part, was caused by the trillions of petrodollars we shipped to the middle east at $4.00+ per gallon) is a "head fake" to get our minds off the fact that there was dramatic price rigging (at the refinery and retail levels, 'cuz we all know that OPEC rigs raw oil pricing) in the motor fuel industry. Had the other problems not been moved to the forefront of the American public's remarkably short attention span, it's highly possible that the next Congress would have a much stronger interest in a REAL investigation of ExxonMobil's $14 billion dollar profits last quarter, etc.

Dunno - everyone likes to blame bad fortune on conspiracies!

Well its because there are alternatives to fossil fuels. They could be set into place now if there was a true necessity for them. But than billions of dollars would be lost by the oil companies and energy companies. And since fuel would also still be around demand wouldn't be high. Why not let the oil companies continue getting rich untill there really is no oil and than put some nice ultra expensive alternative fuel vehicles on the road. Its not a conspiracy. Its just how it works.

I'd like to know what everyone else is paying. Cause based on this thread so far, several folks were paying less than I have been.
