That's what a week's possession is all about. For soaps and aftershaves - scoop or pour a sample of products to try at your leisure. Hardware is tougher. If no one objects this is try-a-blade time, and with proper hygiene test ride a couple razors. If your swaps are of a similar nature product the details change but the general mix of products keeps changing! I'm watching and if you'll have me might jump in toward the end before The Box returns to @stingraysrock. Is the route and order selected randomly, or to keep the shipping short hops?
Unless any objections, I would think that try a blade time would be a good idea. I think that there will be/are enough to go around. Especially, if multiples are included for those that wish to try them have a chance. As earlier posted, I hope all y'all can sense my excitement and enthusiasm for this awesome idea. While I do not necessarily view it as a way to recoup costs, and as a matter of practice, I believe most put in more than they take out. It is about trying different things, things one may never have even thought nor known about before. Just my 2 cents worth.
Well this morning I had other things planned to use, but this soap was calling my name. Got a sample out if it, and will be passing it on. The soap worked as well as I expected it to, and burst into a wonderful lather . Scents are not my forte, but I will describe it as :crisp, clean, bit of vintage. The scuttle was amazing! Loved not having to continue to run the hot water to reheat the brush, and it kept the brush warm. While the person that put the pack of brushes stated they may be horse, but suspected they are boar, that is a correct assumption, good stiff boar brush with great backbone! It will break in wonderfully and last a long while! Lastly, I tried the Personna Reds, while they are sharp, and smooth, I didn't notice any major difference between them and the lab Blue blades. I'll keep this one that I used, then pass the rest along. I will see how many shaves I can get out of it. All in all, so far I'm excited about the items, and the opportunity to be exposed to these great items. More reviews coming from this trial box before I pass her along! Shave On!
Yeah, y'all are having too much fun. Now I get to actively stress over the comes out / goes in portion of the program! I expect I've got enough "spare" gear to make a stop worth the while.
I want to raise an idea- Once the tour has completely ended( the box has gotten back to @stingraysrock or whoever is the last stop) do ya’ll want to consider re-circulating the box if the contents are still numerous and everyone buys in?
Doing a Round II is up to Jeff @stingraysrock. Anyone can start their own Pass Around at any time. These are Gentlemen's Agreements outside the jurisdiction of TSD. You can go General Shaving Gear, or specific to just soap, or razors, brushes, hot sauce, empty brass for reloading, etc. Go back and read the discussion, keep notes on do's and dont's, and start a new thread!
Thank you for starting, organizing, and overseeing this pass around. I have and am enjoying it immensely.
I found it to be a lot of fun and would be interested in participating in the second round. I was involved in one across the street a few years back, but when some of the members were holding on to it it for almost three months, I dropped out. As long as as it moves along in a reasonable timely fashion it's a lot of fun.
So, I used the brush, razor, aftershave and scuttle from the Travel Box 2019 for this mornings shave. I will save the video for now, since we have something going on across the street. This boar brush is breaking in nicely, and still has lots of backbone, I'm impressed by it. I was expecting the Star razor to shave similar to a Gem Damanskee, and while they are close, I prefer the star! (Now another rabbit hole for me to explore. ) The Arko aftershave gel was exactly what I was hoping it would be, no big surprise, and the scent is very pleasing, though not long lasting . All in all great shave this morning. Will is at least one other thing from the travel Box, then start working on collecting some samples to try down the line! Shave on!
That is a compromise between what Danny @Hembree was asking (a month long hold) and a grab & go mail it the next day lightning round style. There's no reason anyone can't start another pass around with their own set of timing and rules.
This morning I used a couple more items from the box to see if I liked them. The little travel brush is a good one, so I'll add that to the list. Appears to be badger, however, I could be wrong. The Gillette super thin platinum are just o.k. blades. They shave, and they work, but neither the sharpest nor the smoothest either. All in all I've used worst blades (here's looking at you Dorco) Lastly, I keep coming back to this scuttle. I am head over heals in love with it, makes life a lot easier especially on those quick mornings where I'm running late. I have 2 more video shaves with the products, and I'm saving my coolest one for tomorrow. Plan on seeing my putting in video Wednesday. Thanks for letting me play along, it has been awesome
Today is rainy, blustery, and just an Eeyore kind of day .However, they didn't stop me from having a first class shave!!! Was looking at this razor all.week long, and after one last look, I just had to give her a try! Not the worst shave, but not the best shave either. It goes to show what is always soap here, technique trumps tools. DFS with the eversharp! Still LOVE the scuttle, and while I don't need to, I use it in every shave just because I can! It will be a keeper for sure! The brush, not so much. It's not a bad brush, but it's not a keeper either. I don't particularly get excited about it and while it performs just fine, I'm not going to keep it. I still prefer the boar knots that are stiff and have lots of back bone. Since the soap is a custom deal, can't say much here except a review is coming. I can say this, I wish I had known about the orange blossom cologne before. I will be keeping this one and using it judicially. Enjoy your day and shave on!
