3-Piece Week 2/4-2/10

Saturday:
Ugly Duckling, Gillette 7 O'clock yellow, DVH boar, Vintage Williams.

 

Nice comfortable 2-pass weekend DFS with no touch ups. I think I've almost reached my goal of a 2-pass shave I can go to work with. We'll see how it looks at about 5 o'clock today. Still using the Muhle R89 and liking it more every day. I also used an AOS sampler today. Their pre-shave oil was not that great IMO. It was thick and not that slippery. The cream was ok but not any better than a lot of cheaper stuff. The after shave balm though was pretty nice. It had a good tingly feeling and even though it said it was unscented, it had a nice light lemony smell.

 

Tomorrow will be the last day of 3-Piece Week. I have a day off so I decided I will use the Titan with the H1 (aggressive) head. This isn't a razor that I would use when I am in a hurry but when I have time to relax and enjoy the shave, the Titan is a pleasure to use.

It's been a good 3-piece week. I'm starting to think I'm not really a vintage razor kind of guy though. After trying out quite a few different razors the past 6 weeks or so, I've found the ones that perform best for me are the Muhle R89 and the Futur. The few vintage Gillettes I've tried worked ok but seem a bit rougher by comparison. I really don't like the blade angle on the NEW which probably means I won't like the Tech much either. Going back to my 3-piece after 3 or 4 weeks of TTOs has shown me that I'm not that fond of TTO heads either. A 3-piece has a nice smoothness to it that I just don't feel with a TTO.

In celebration of a great 3-piece week, I just put in an order for a Weber Bulldog. I know I could get by without one easily enough but they seem like pretty good deals right now and I'm not sure they'll be able to keep the price this low for long. Figured if I don't get one now, they might cost double later. I might just sell off a few vintage razors to help offset the cost.

 

Yeah, that's the thing with Theme weeks: you get to concentrate on certain aspects of shaving you would otherwise perhaps overlook. That Bulldog looks really nice!

 

Sunday:

Last day of 3-piece week.
Gillette Old style OC & Gillette 7 O'clock yellow. Nice shave, just shy of BBS. I retired the blade though. It had about ten shaves behind it. That would be enough.

Since I havent got any MWF I won't join next week's theme. Have fun all!

 

Wow, that was unexpected on a Sunday. I just got the confirmation that my Bulldog shipped about 6 hours after placing the order. Of course I know it's probably not going out until tomorrow but the customer service is looking awfully good so far.

 

Haven't been posting much (very busy at work, OT, working lunches), but I have kept up with 3-Piece week!

Monday - actually a 4-piece Merkur travel razor, much like Heloguy's,

but mine is a closed comb.
Tuesday - '52 Ball End Tech
Wednesday - Gillette Old Type
Thursday - Fat Handle Tech
Friday - Gillette New Type

As most of you know, weekends are for my SEs - Saturday str8s and Sunday SE.
