Saturday April 6 - Arko Adjustable April

Prep: Hot shower with Aleppo olive oil soap with 20% bay laurel oil

Razor: Rockwell T2 adjustable DE set on "3" ; Rockwell blade (2)

    Soap: Arko stick

Brush: APShaveCo Elegant Emerald with 24mm mixte boar-badger knot

    Lather Bowl: None

Post: rinse, alum, rinse, Thayers Non-alcoholic Unscented Witch Hazel spray

Last shave: Monday April 1 - 5 days ago

The wetted Arko stick easily rubbed a good soap coating onto my dampened whiskers. I soaked the animal hair brush in hot water first, shook it out, then face lathered. Face lathering with a heated badger (or badger/boar) brush is definitely a pleasure. The Arko lathers up quickly, although this brush soaks up a lot of it.

I did two passes with the T2. No nicks or scrapes, but I certainly noticed that the T2 has more blade presence than my Gillette FatBoy or SuperAdjustable. I use them on "4" ; I think next shave I will drop the T2 back to "2" and see if that is more comfortable.

Unlike my synthetic brushes, the mixte knot would not give up enough lather for the second pass. I had to rub my face again with the Arko stick to generate the coverage needed for the second pass. Certainly not a problem, but a definite quirk.

After the alum test (silent) and rinse, I finished with a simple spritz of witch hazel for a bit of skin cleansing and moisturizing.

Hope everyone has a great weekend. We are having a lovely, sunny, warm Saturday here -- if my paranoia didn't know better, I might almost think we were heading into spring... But I think I will leave the snow tires on the car for awhile yet.

    Great pic and report, Gary!

I have never used Wickham soap but have seen it for sale for years. It's a non-tallow vegan offering, isn't it? You like it?

Thanks, Gary. Nice to know about Wickhams, although I have so many soaps and creams in my stash already that I would have to live to about 100 to use them all. I think just my Arko sticks alone would do me for about five years...

Excellent shave and post John. I have run into the same thing when using natural hair brushes. I overload the brush and then paint the soap on my face and then follow with doing circles without oversplaying the brush. I do the same thing when I bowl lather with a natural bristle brush. However, I don't smush the brush in the bowl. I lightly swirl the brush and add water as I continue doing so until I have an abundance of lather. Afterwards, I use the same method as I did with facelathering.
