Same as 2 days ago (2nd December) but using a Feather (1)

Damage = Local weeper central chin during pass 2. Stopped it in its tracks with CWR and Alum

Score = 9.7 / 10. A really fine shave despite the weeper it gets an excellent score. Although it's aggressive, this is a lovely razor, very easy to get into my hard to get to cleft between lower lip and chubby chin. After I saw the weeper I was not game to go ATG in the top lip area, nor did I need to

Comments = Instead of loading from the puck, I scooped out ~ ½ cc of the soap from the puck into the bowl. Still provided plenty of lather, so I reckon I can use even less soap next time. This is great way to titrate the soap-to-water ratio. For me the goal is place just enough soap in the bowl to able to dissolve it all, and then add water to get to the perfect lather. If there is still soap in the bottom of the bowl then its harder to get the ratio correct, more swirling with the brush just keeps adding more soap. No matter, easy enough to add water to the brush or face

Because the thread on this vintage razor is rather worn, and patched with plumbers tape, I merely rinsed and the left the blade in there for the next shave. No point in adding more wear and tear

Why on earth did Gillette move away from this lovely flat cap design to the thicker ones we see later on?

Fabulous Feather blade shave Chris! I sometimes bloom the soap in the bowl shaking it side to side until the water starts getting cloudy. Then, I use the bloom water to prep my face. I have the brush already damp to start the swirling process and whip the lather.

The Indian saloon pack are the best option IMHO if and when you do a purchase....What I forgot to mention in the saloon pack query is there is another version of the GWS which are manufactured in China, (5 blades in a tuck) with different packaging too, not sure of the price difference, which are equally as good as the Indian version in performance & efficiency. The only difference that I found was the Indian version is slightly smoother...As always opinions are very subjective, especially with DE blades.

I don't think they are stainless. I do rinse and pat dry the blade after every shave. I keep my blades that I am using on a magnet on my cabinet. I wash all my stuff when I am done shaving. I use an old toothbrush and clean under the running faucet.

Regular DE blades I only use 2 times unless they are a Feather blade. I can shave for a week with them.

Did a wider angle shot to show off the cool little shave den shelf that my wife bought me. She is being very supportive but I was probably taking up too much of her sink space lol.

Shave was OK. It felt great at first, but then it started to feel like the Kai was degrading just a bit during only the second shave? I got a small weeper on my chin during cleanup which was also a bit unusual.

Monday is my most rushed morning/day of the week, so I’m going to leave the blade in and try again with it Wednesday. That should provide some clarity. Today could have been a bit of user error…

    Current standings are:

    1- Feather
    2- Gillette Silver Blue
    3- Kai

    Enjoy your week gentlemen!

    Joe and Joe....

You two didn't even get past the 3rd of DEcember without going back to the straights!

I can actually respect that :eatdrink013:

Enjoyed looking at all the other great shave setups gentlemen!

Thanks Joe, I have bloomed the MWF like that in past. Previously it lathered really well. Later on it didn't so I have stopped using it and letting it dry out. I plan to keep the SV puck dry for as long as I can. Don't know if getting these wet can make them go "off" but at this price I don't want to risk it.

This is a great suggestion by Joe and I do it religiously as well. I always bloom the soap and soak the brush with hot water when I'm in the shower, then massage that water into my beard before I lather. That stuff is liquid gold as far as I'm concerned...

Good for you for sticking with it. I tried the Gem a while back. I don't know if my face is too angular, or (most likely) my techniques was subpar, but I cut myself up terribly. I mean to the extent that the blade bit my cheek and went entirely in. My bathroom looked like a crime scene when I was done...

Part of me wants to try again, but I developed a serious aversion to those razors. I think it has to wait for a time when 90% of my shaves are no longer somewhat rushed, which is my current situation...

Yes- They are classic products and scents for a reason...

Funny thing about Pinuad for me is that I absolutely HATE Lilac Vegetal to the point of a gag reflex, but absolutely LOVE every other product in their line...

My setup for this afternoon. Typical 3-pass shave. WTG, ATG, and across the grain always works for me for a nice smooth face!

Razor - Muhle R41 with a fresh Gillette "Silver Blue" blade
    Pre-shave cream - Proraso Sandalwood
Soap - MWF whisked into my Shave Nation ceramic bowl
Brush - Simpson X2 Commodore badger hair
Post-shave - Thayers Facial Toner "Lavender" & Geo F Trumper "Skin Food" Sandalwood balm
After-shave - Clubman Pinaud Reserve "Whiskey Woods"

I am not sure if I can get more than 2 shaves with these blades or not. We shall see!

This morning I closed out the Jeeves/Stephan Bay Rum Offerings(until next time that is). Two Knicks alongside S. Porcupine, no other "issues of negativity"(howdja like THAT, @Primotenore). The New Yorkers were painless-good. 2 passes. I sure hope I can get to a barbershop soon, so the babes can work their magic . Moving on to lovely goo for the next two days. As for today's shave, Most Outstanding.
