10th Anniversary Shave (a couple days late)

Historical note - December 23, 2014 was the day that @Bama_Samurai posted the first invitation to start the 30 Day Rule group, which continues through today as this thread. So, for ten years and two days this concept of learning technique, getting better shaves and the added bonus of fellowship and fun has continued to exist. In honor of that 10 year anniversary I shaved today with the setup I was using back then. I had only been trying out traditional shaving tools and methods for a few weeks when I joined up with this idea.

The Edwin Jagger 89L was the first razor I purchased, other than the cheapo VDH Weishi knockoff. It's a great starting razor, very mild and easy to control, but still provides great shaves even after years of experience. The blade was Voskhod, as I had discovered them in a Try-a-Blade pack and loved them. I had ordered a 100 pack from Russia but had enough to get started without it yet arriving. The soap - Proraso Green. Mostly because I had seen good reviews of it on a couple of different shaving forums. And the brush - the only one I had at the time - the VDH Boar that came with the Weishi knockoff and a bowl.

Today's shave was quite enjoyable, as I returned to the basics and allowed myself three full passes. Proraso does a great job of producing a slick lather, even with a cheap boar brush. The results with the Mighty Voskhod and EJ razor were more than acceptable. Very smooth, comfortable, and great reminder of how it all started.

Very nice shave and post Neal. The 10th Anniversary of Having the Concept of the 30 DC thread was in Dec. 2014 and that's true. The 10th Anniversary of the first post of the 30DC thread was in mid Jan 2015.

 

Not to put too fine a point on it but the 30DC did begin January 1, 2015. Not that it is a world shaking difference. LOL Happy Holidays!

 

I checked the archives and you were correct. The first post was on Christmas Day 2014, but it was under the Jan 2015 banner. However, I will let January 1 2015 be the official anniversary of the 30DC thread. It's just a start of a new thread at the beginning of a new year seems easier to remember for us old folks. Lol!

Prep: Warm shower:/Cien Sensitive Shower Gel.

Pre:
Cold wet flannel to my face.
Pears Transparent bar Soap.
Brush: Omega 49 Pro.
Face Lather.
Lather: HWF (No.1) with Cedarwood & Patchouli.
Blade: Dorco Prime Platinum. (D2)
Razor: Yintal 9306-I TTO.

Post:
Cold Water Face Rinse./Cold water face wash with brush squeezing's,/Alum Rub./Cold Water Rinse./Homemade (~Autumn/Winter mix~) peppermint lavender, eucalyptus, + Tea Tree essential Oils Mixed Together With Care+Witch Hazel./Baylis & Harding Black Pepper & Ginseng ASB./Ard Al Zafraan Oud 24 Hours EdP.

Everything in my shave set up this morning paired together wonderfully.

My shaving related Christmas presents this year from family & friends where a 100 Amazon Solimo DE blades + 1 bottle of Brut ASL, 3, 30ml bottles of various dupe Scentalis EdT's, 1bottle of Brut Splash-On Lotion,1 bottle of Nivea Men sensitive PSB, 3 sample tubs of Nivea soft moisturiser + a Ikea Kalas Plastic Side Bowl that I'll use as a mixing bowl which will all be featured in my 2025 shave set ups.

A close comfortable 2 pass + pick ups silky smooth shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with a few small squirts of Ard Al Zafraan Oud 24 Hours to the pulse points.

My face is feeling smooth & smelling divine.

I can see it all now: Joe is out walking and passes a police officer who notices he has cut marks on both sides of his neck. And the conversation ends like this:

Suspicious Officer: "So, to recap, Sir: on Christmas Day, which is a time of year when many people actually become depressed and suicidal, you took a straight razor (also known as a "cutthroat razor") and cut yourself with it on both sides of your neck. Cuts that look very much like they were made by someone trying to work up the determination to slit his own throat and doing a practice run first.

"But you are assuring me that in fact those are just "shaving nicks" and you just accidentally "cut yourself shaving". Because your hobby is shaving in a traditional fashion using a cutthroat razor and then posting pictures to a group of fellow "wetshavers" to show that you did it without hurting yourself."

"That's what you're telling me about those cut marks on your neck?"

"I think you had better come along with me to the hospital for a Mental Health Assessment by a doctor just to make sure you are not actually trying to harm yourself..."

Anyway, it was a nice Christmas shave, Joe...

I joined TSD in October 2016 after lurking for a week or two, mainly so I could join the 30DC. I consider it to have been a great decision.

Real fine Throwback shave this morning. I was thinking that my brush-swirling skills have improved since my last use of the Beau Brummel soap, thus I was anticipating a good swirl,which I accomplished. Clean and clear shave all around. No damage anywhere. 2 healthy passs. Nice close from the Stoylin Unscented A.S. Itmight be time to re-order that soon. As for the shave-As Outstanding As It Gets.
