Excellent setup and shave Neal. Oleo Soapworks became Chicago Grooming. Apparently, they aren't into artisanal soaps. There is a TSD thread titled Oleo/ Chicago Grooming Co. with only one post. You will find it under the category of Shave Soaps and was written in the early part of 2023.

    Yesterday's Shave.

Above the Tie R2 plate with Atlas handle.
    Astra SP blade.
    Razorock 400 Plissoft synthetic brush.
    Above the Tie shave soap.
    Timeless Razor shave bowl.
Irish Chestnut by Andy Hilfiger cologne.

Today is a no shave day but yesterday was a great shave.

I brought out the Above the Tie set and chose the R2 plate for three very nice passes.

    Happy Sunday everyone!

    Shavette Sunday!

    Razor- Parker Stainless Steel Shavette
    Blade - derby-shavette.jpg
    Soap - Stirling Sheep
    Brush - Rooney Silvertip Badger
    Finish - Ogallala Bay Rum

It's Sunday, so let's break out a Shavette. Haven't used one of these in quite awhile. I'm more comfortable with pain sticks than shavettes but curious if I can still manage it.

Before beginning I considered the need for a slick lather, and plenty of it. Should help things go more smoothly. Stirling Sheep is my go to soap when I need slickness - plus I love the feel of the mutton tallow/lanolin. Pretty much an obvious choice. What brush, though? Well, one I rarely use but I think this shave calls for it. The big Rooney Silvertip. Lots of lather in this brush and it's luxurious. Shouldn't let me down.

Loaded up the Derby Professional, lathered up the Sheep and went to work. Took my time and adjusted to the feel of the shavette again. Watched my angles, kept the pressure off, even if it meant relaxing my grip as I kept tensing up. First pass was better than I expected and bloodless. Lathered again. Plenty of lather in this big brush. Second pass went find until I was down on my neck. Slight slip and small nick under my chin. Other than that, everything went well. That's enough for me. Very nice finish for a Sunday. I rinsed off, grabbed the Ogallala Bay Rum and splashed it on. Burn, baby, burn. But not too horrible and I am totally satisfied with how it went.

I have a few more days off over the holidays so I'm busy setting things up in my new shave den here at the house. Beginning to feel like home in here. Hope you had a great Sunday!

Super Sunday Shavette Shave Neal. It is a beautiful top-tier brush. Of course, you can't go wrong with Stirling.

    Good afternoon.

    Schick I-1 Injector
    Pella Blade (9)
    MrEE LE #10 Cashmere Brush
Angora Soaps Midnight Lavender SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Personal Care Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 25 hrs

    20241229_154035.jpg

I went with an easy, quick 3 pass shave with this setup. I lightly loaded a pasty load on my brush and proceeded to facelather. Added small increments of water to the brush until I got a nice thin, slick and creamy lather. I just love this scent.
Anyway, achieved an error-free BBS result. The alum feedback was minimal and limited to my neck regions. Splashed on the witch hazel and the fine matching aftershave to end this quality session. Take care.

Sunday Shave - no changes other than blade. I’m a dedicated 30 day method guy. I just use the same stuff for 2-3 months and get better at using my tools. This month and heading into January I’m focusing on my new unbranded badger brush and using the TOBS Sandalwood and making a nice slick lather.

    Prep: hot face wash
    Lather: TOBS Sandalwood
    Brush: Badger
    Razor: ATT Windsor
    Blade: Astra
Post: Cool rinse and Captain’s Choice Venture.

2 passes over 3 days stubble and I’m good to go.
