    Although you consistently use the same setup, it's still good that you post on how good the shaves turn out, Troy.

    2 Days growth (getting a bit lazy, but my shaves with 2 days growth are always rewarding)

    Soap = Stirling Christmas Eve
    Brush = Omega Pura Setola
    Bowl = white plastic
    Razor = Red Tip
    Blade = Voskhod (1)
    Passes = as needed
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayers rose petal, Nivea Balm
    ASL = Whiskey woods
    Scent = Guerlain Pour Homme EdP
    Score = 9.8 /10
    No Damage. Just super smooth. Doing more strokes per pass to get really close. The Red Tip is very safe with the Voskhod, not the sharpest blade but this was a smooth and enjoyable shave

    The Alum sang a bit in the left lower neck and back of neck: just means I got really close and smooth

    Have a great day and enjoy the countdown to 2025!

    NCoxSTL AAACK!

    Thanks Chris. The difference between a horsehair and boar brush is definitely noticeable. Rougher? In a way yes. Depends on the age and use of the boar as well. Boars tend to soften up over time, so even though they provide a stiffer brush than a badger, and with more scritch, they mellow. Horsehair is stiffer, doesn't splay easily and provides a bit harsher scritch. More like being scratched without leaving marks. That's a terrible description but I'm struggling to find the right way to describe it.

    The other big difference in a pony and a pig is that the pony will tangle if not cared for properly. I don't load the pony as briskly as a pig, to avoid tangling the bristles together. And, after ever couple of uses, I run a comb through the pony to remove any tangles or knots that are trying to form inside. I also lather with more of a paintbrush stroke, with small circles to release lather.

    Horse hair brushes were quite popular until early in the 20th century when anthrax became an issue. When they developed the means to sterilize the hair and eliminate the anthrax problem they never recovered. I find them a great addition to the collection. I also have a @Jayaruh brush, #312, that features a synthetic horse knot. Looks like a pony, stiffer like a pony, but softer and not as likely to tangle as a pony.
