Thanks Barry, I have added to my Maybe One Day wishlist! Nice Tallow based Festival season shave Joe. Interesting little razor. Another superior shave Barry.
Great setup and shave, Barry. And thanks for the pictorial reminder -- I had a bottle of Lucky Tiger Face Tonic, really liked it, but have never replaced it. Time to do so...
Thank you John. The Lucky Tiger Face Tonic is a great post shave application and well worth another purchase.
Monday December 15 (very early morning) - Do Whatever You Want December Prep: Hot face wash with Aleppo olive oil and 20% bay laurel oil soap (traditional anti-acne); followed by ice cold water pre-shave face rinse Razor: Matte black stainless steel Supply 2.0 injector with "nick-proof" SE comb plate / Supply White Label (house-branded Personna)(6) Soap: TOBS Lavender shave cream (croap) Brush: Simpson's Chubby 2 Synthetic Lather Bowl: None Post: rinse, alum, rinse, TSD Sandalwood Shave Milk splash Last shave: Wednesday December 3 (evening) - 11 days ago (?!!!!) The setup: The temperature has been well into the deep freeze here for the last week. I find that even a very short stubbly beard helps cut the windchill on the face when the temperature drops below -20C and the wind starts blowing. However, it warmed up all the way to -10C today, so time to shave again. As planned, I am repeating my setup throughout this month. With one exception today -- I used TSD Sandalwood instead of Vanilla or Lavender Shave Milk for the finish. Overall, I got the same excellent result as for my last few shaves. I also established to my own satisfaction that -- after the temperature here drops to between -20 and -30 C -- turning the sink tap all the way over to cold provides not a "cool water" or "cold water" shave but a "freezing ice cold water" shave. Uhmm, no. There are limits... Two passes of the razor had me back from an 11-day scruffy short beard to cleanshaven. First pass was WTG everywhere and second pass was XTG on the face and ATG on the neck. I find that two passes gets me to DFS that is not quite BBS. A third pass would get me to BBS but also usually results in mild razorburn. DFS is quite good enough. Once again, I paid special attention to skin stretching, especially on my neck. The result was a very smooth shave with no nicks, blood spots or razorburn. The alum was completely silent at the end. The TSD splash provided a pleasant finish with a bit of moisturizing for the current dry cold weather. I did notice that the TSD Sandalwood Shave Milk lacks only one characteristic compared to my Lavender, Vanilla or Bay Rum versions -- in the years since I bought them all, it is the only one that has lost most of its fragrance. Hope the week goes well for everyone!
I can't even begin to imagine -20C ! I like the way you say it warmed UP to -10C, heh heh... Definitely not a time for a cold water shave! Nice going in the shave department John
15 Dec 2025 2 Days growth Half way through December and plugging away with the same setup, rather successfully I might say. Day 3 Permasharp, getting a bit smoother still Still needed to loosen the cap a bit to a get a bit more bite from the blade Great damage free shave Have a great day one and all
This is where I would have 1/2 blades but then the style of shaver I would want should I ever got a shaver that needs 1/2 blades is a 2 blade single edge. The only good model of 2 blade single edge that is not expensive like Leaf with the 4 blade meant for head or legs only due to the size of the shaver head or worse the 2 1/2 blade shaver does not take those specific 1/2 blades that need to have a hole in them due to how the blades sit in is the Thurlady model/same model sold as no brand on AliExpress that you need to look to find the exact same design as there is another very similar model that doses have those holes. These 2 blade models need to have the 1/2 blade nearly perfect each time to avoid overlap and need to be a flat blade, even some 1/2 blade single edge models need to have a flat blade.
Dec 15 Head and Face Shave SOTM Good afternoon. 1968 Gillette Slim Adjustable (7) Super Max Blue Diamond (5,6) Hembree/Maggard Timberwolf Synthetic Brush Captain's Choice 45th Parallel SS and AS Stirling Alum Block Lucky Witch Hazel Beard Growth: 4 Days Dome Turf: 8 Days I definitely have been getting lazy to shave so I broke my habit to do an above the shoulder shave. Picked out my Slim to do the job. Did 2 error-free passes on the face and dome for a super smooth comfortable shave. The Captain's Choice 45th Parallel always has given me a creamy, slick lather. I enjoy the its cherry scent. I didn't have any alum feedback. Splashed on the witch hazel and the matching aftershave to finish this session. Take care.
