Yes and no. A church member wants to give me a new straight razor from China, but he says it doesn't have an edge. He saw it and thought of me. I said thanks and will accept it, but I told him that I don't think I will be able to put a decent edge on it because the quality of China razors are not the best. However, I will keep it as a show piece. He obtained another razor that he wants me to look at as well. I don't know if he wants to give it to me as well, but I believe the brand is Deathstar. I am not thrilled with the name, but if he also decides to give that one to me then I will accept it. I would not want to insult him by refusing to accept it. As far as purchasing any straight razor, I am not planning on it. I am content with my collection. Like I have mentioned many times, I would have liked to have a Filarmonica 14 Inox, but the asking prices are ridiculously high. Truthfully, any Filly on the market demands a high price.

I've heard those China straights are pain to get an edge on if you can get one to hold an edge.

Take care and you may run across a Filly at a price you can not turn down.

The problem with China straights such as Gold Dollars are that most of them are warped and so a lot of metal may need to be removed. Personally, it's not worth the time and effort. I am OK as far as not having a Filly. I have my Sons of Thunder to make me smile.

Great intro to start the year off right, Joe!

I don't have an Edwin Jagger anything, but I do have a very large (1 lb, mostly still full) tub of JM Fraser's Shave Cream, a now-defunct old Canadian commercial manufacturer. I also have several sets of fine soaps and balms by Jeeves of Hudson Street, an American artisan maker who is also no longer in business. I know the pandemic killed the JM Fraser's manufacturing line, and I believe it also was largely responsible for Jeeves of Hudson Street ceasing operations. So I will probably do "J" soft products for January...

    Greetings,

    (Face & Head shave)

First face & head shave of 2024.

Happy New Year to all members of TSD, wishing you all peace good health, happiness & contentedness for 2024.

Throughout the month I shall be using a mixture of shaving assortments that I've infrequently used and adding a variety of Christmas presents from family & friends.

Like the vast majority of Subcontinent DE blades with few rules to the exception the are smooth & efficient which have paired up with my razors in the past and have been consistent with no duds or other quality issues.

Finishing the shave off with a generous splash of P&G Old Spice Original ASL. One of wonderful Christmas presents I was gifted from family & friends.

My face & precious swede are is feeling smooth, & smelling divine.;)

Keep safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

Great pic post and shave Scott. You piqued my interest, but I never realized the Hensons were that light. Similar to my aluminium Tech in fact.
Good luck with the daily shaves by the way

Thanks Scott, thinking of sticking one in one of my open combs and see how we go. Maybe a Friday job, two days to heal before work on a Monday Lol!

    Thanks Joe.

    Thanks Gary

Cool looking razor Barry. You and @brit Gary might be on the same wavelength!

Interesting comment you made about the smoothness of the Subcontinent blades. I am beginning to appreciate smoothness too. I have some more Treets I will try try out soon

    02 Jan ’24 Tabac Tuesday

Early morning pre work shave prompted an effort to shave off some time from my usual routine

No prep. Splash of water to the face, face lathering with Tabac cream and RR Plissoft synthetic. Copious amounts of thick lather. Derby Premium (1) in my Gillette Red (now Gold) Tip. 3 passes plus some clean ups. Feels completely different to the Kai-in-a-Tech. Similar to Flare tip in fact. The Derby blade was nice and smooth but this combo did need more pressure to get the job done, and of necessity more strokes per pass. Safe but not super efficient. Tabac aftershave splash. Muted application of Guerlain Pour Homme on the pulse points, mainly for my own pleasure. Nice efficient shave all round. Lovely combo for the occasional abbreviated shave one sometimes needs.

Down for breakfast earlier than usual. Coffee and the usual gruel, got to work nice and early, the traffic is still light at this time of year

Thank you chris.. The Parker 94R is an assertive little razor. Parker razors in general for me anyway, are a touch more assertive than EJ DE89/Merkur 34C./Muhle R89. which i like and pair up well with less aggressive DE blades... Treet blades are well worth trying out. They ain't the most assertive of blades, but the smoothness makes up for that. Smoothness is my thing in a blade, I can do extra buffing without causing unnecessary irritation. As always opinions & reviews are very subjective, especially when it comes to DE blades. Take care.

Not bad for my first Goo shave of 2024. The only area that needs improvement is the usual-right side under right ear That consists of part-jawline, part-Cactus Nation. I always succeed.on the left. Clean&Clear on the cheeks&sideburns. Can do a little better tomorrow on both ends of Porcupine Alley, as is the case mostly with soap shaves. Same about the rest of Cactus. Man, that Russian Leather A.S. is strong. I may compare the scent to that of Chiseled Face Midnight Stag. No cuts, Knicks, Polka-Dots. One pass. Pretty Outstanding.
