January 10 SOTM Good afternoon. Straight Razor Shave #597 C-Mon Stirling Boar Brush Music City Suds Lavender and Ever Amen SS and AS Stirling Alum Block Personal Care Witch Hazel Beard Growth: 25.5 hrs Three error-free passes gave me a very close comfortable shave this morning. I stayed with the same soap from yesterday's shave. I face-lathered to give myself a nice thin, but slick lather. The alum feedback was silent. Finished with the witch hazel and the matching aftershave treatment. Take care.
Thank you Gary...the "Skin Defense" Bodywash from Dove has been great for me, to help set evrything up.
I've been going back through old Gillette commercials and one shows the Tech, brand new in the '50s. 49 cents for the razor. Yep. $0.49. Less than two quarters. Inexpensive and smooth operator. Who wouldn't want one?
New razor in the house! I have been waiting on two razors to be delivered through the great blizzard of 2025, a Blue Tip and a Fatboy. The Blue Tip seems to be stuck in USPS hell in St. Louis, but the Fatboy snuck through today. Great looking, excellent shape for being as old as I am. It's a 1959, E3 razor and I'm a 1959 E4 guy. This one joins my other Fatboy which is an E4. So, two birth year Fatboys in the house. And, I'm happy to say that I've been on a weight loss track for the past year so those are the ONLY Fatboys in this house. Ha! Beat you to it! The Clix blade was included in the box. Never heard of it before, will be doing some research. Will I try it out? Only time will tell.
Thanks Barry. I like the green and cream handle. The brush has more scritch than my Omega Pro 49, but it's still a fine piece of shaving hardware.
January 10, 2025 Jillette January Razor - 1959 (E2) Gillette Tech Blade - Soap - Arko Brush - West Coast Shaving Synthetic Well, the 1957 Blue Tip which was next in line is still stuck in USPS hell in STL, apparently. My new Fatboy, ordered three days later, made it through today. So, we'll skip the Blue Tip and come back to it. The next year available to me is 1959, and I have several to use from that year. The date code for 1959 is E, and it is my birth year as well. By Gillette dating methodology, I'm an E4. 1959, 4th Quarter. I'll be using them in date order, so the first up is the E2 Gillette Tech. After last night's Tech shave there was a bit of discussion on how much disrespect this humble razor sometimes gets. It was the lowest price of the Gillettes, yet it is the longest manufactured of any of the razors, being made from 1938 to 1979. Basically unchanged except for a few handle swaps, it's a three piece, mild, yet effective razor. It sold for less than a buck back in those days and it's easy to see why it was so popular. The variation in my hand tonight has the Gillette logo on the cap. I picked the Gillette 365 blade to pair with the Tech. The 365 is another Indian Gillette, and I know I trialed it back in the day. My memory was that it was a solid blade, nothing special, but gets the job done. For the soap I went back to the Turkish delight, Arko. Why not, eh? My West Coast Shaving synthetic brush made a mountain of lather and away I went. The first pass was quite nice, actually. Smooth, nothing harsh about this blade. Seemed very effective. Second pass also smooth and effective. A bit of touch up left to do, owing to the mildness of the razor, but that was expected. Very nice finish to the shave, I'm smooth and no irritation and this setup worked very well. Once again a Tech rises to the occasion and delivers. Just what it was designed to do. Three more 1959 razors to go and I'm looking forward to them all. A Superspeed and two Fatboys. Yep. It's fun time.

Late posts:1 10 and 11 Jan 2025 Tabac shave stick, Tabac AS balm and ASL Gillette Red tip 65.5 grams Chubby 2 Friday 10th = Astra day 4 Saturday 11th = Feather day 1 Two wonderful passes and touch ups on each occasion 10th : The tallow in the Tabac tended to seriously clog the little Red tip quite easily, necessitating loosening the cap and rinsing thoroughly 11th: made the lather even thinner, moist and slick: the razor still got clogged. Silly old Tallow. Nice post shave feel though! Reminder to self: use a different razor with the Tabac stick: either the Merkur Progress which has wider slots, or an OC razor Have a great weekend guys
Great shave to close out(until next time)my Oud specials. 0:50 at the Loading Dock for the soap-the brush teamed up nicely with the latter. No damage anywhere(cuts, Knicks, etc.). Clean and clear all over. Fine finish from the Agadir(A.S.). Couldn't be happier. As Outstanding As It Gets.
