Looks like a nice Sunday shave, Barry! Your photo is sharp and crisp as usual. I had no idea Arko made aftershave!
I like that Jayaruh brush, Joe. But I do find that my badger/boar mixed knot has good backbone but seems thirstier than either plain badger or boar.
Congratulations on nearly reaching that 600/600 shaving milestone! It rather sounds as if you are already a master open blade shaver.
Great Sunday Citrus Shave, Gary! Let's see: lemon, grapefruit and bergamot in the soap, lemon in the Thayers witch hazel and lime in the ProRaso aftershave cologne. And even your brush handle matched the theme. Well done!
Great Gillette shave and pic, Neal! So ... do you still have that first razor - the Schick Injector? Good luck with the interview tomorrow.
Yes, another issue with AIs: No requirement (or inbuilt ability) for them to declare any biases or conflicts of interest...
awesome b-year flaretip shave Neal.my grandfather was a bonafide gillette man also, since beforee ww2,last razor i saw him using was a cream handled slim twist from the early 70s,though i didn't know what that was back then.i left england in 1980 and only saw him a couple of time since, didn't think to ask which razors he had..unfortunately..but have strived to own every british gillette type since the 1930s just incase he owned one..
Thank you! No I do not have that first razor. However, I do have a Type M Schick Injector which is the same model.
Arko make a variety of Aftershaves. They all have a High Alcohol content in them which don't have a scent longevity & all smell slightly synthetic, but are a great every day post shave application.
It looks like this is one of those "Not on this side of the Pond" things: several Canadian and American shaving supply webstores carry Arko, but only the soap in tubs or shaving sticks. No aftershaves.
That's a shame John, probably because of the high alcohol content. The UK has a similar policy for imported aftershaves/perfumes,EdT's etc, which can only be a maximum volume of 150ml and in it's original packaging & placed in a strong cushioned outer package to prevent leakage. IMHO, having over- zealous safety regulations sometimes hinders health and safety making it dramatically worse. Some people have lots of intelligence, but no common sense at all.Enough said. Have a safe coming week.
13 Jan 2025 2 Days growth Deliberately skipped a day anticipating the first use of recent acquisition OC Hot water Prep and Preshave = T&H No 10 Soap = Tabac Shave Stick, one more time Brush = Simpson Chubby 2, still shedding a few hairs ☹ Bowl = face lather Razor = Gillette Empire French Set Goodwill ’31 – ’35 OC. 51.8 grams Blade = Feather day 2 Passes = 3 + Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, pat dry, Thayers rose petal, Tabac ASB ASL = Tabac ASL Score = 9.5 / 10 Damage = none Today’s goal was to try the new (to me) Goodwill OC razor on 2 day’s growth with a Feather blade and the Tabac tallow shave stick, without incurring any damage. The razor is a skittish little thing. Not aggressive (aggression as you all know is in the hand), but hmmm let’s say very non-forgiving. It has little latitude for error. I took it slowly until I found the right angle and touch. The first pass was a bit tricky because the lather was still a bit thick. Thinner for the 2nd and 3rd passes. Three passes were needed today because I was a bit tentative. Unlike the other Gillettes I have used or even the 37C which allow long flowing strokes, this one needs shorter lighter strokes to get the same result. Flat angle of the blade to the face is critical. I recently grew some sideburns to cover a skin blemish, but took these off today, luckily with no damage. The shave took longer than usual, but can be regarded as a success: no damage, nice and smooth, great Taback post shave feel Super start to the week, hope you enjoy yours
Monday's shave was a "Back 9" of yesterday, but not the same result. All went well except for South Porcupine, where some redness developed. Too aggressive there, no doubt. It's still there, but the Royal Copenhagen A.S. helped neutralize it. North Porcupine required more cream than I first thought, but I took care of it. One pass. Good finish with the Royal Copenhagen A.S. One pass. Very Outstanding(just not outstanding enough).
Modifying your shaving technique to suit the razor is key on becoming a master wetshaver. Kudos to you Chris.
awesome empire shave and pic Chris..it's nicknamed the "angel" on a couple of forums..you have an rfb razor?
1/13/24 Prep: shower Lather: Arko/TOBS Brush: NN Badger Razor: Gillette Slim Blade: Astra Post: cool rinse and CC Lime Moving to my 3rd Gillette razor for Ganuary. I’m reminded that I really don’t like my birth year razor, but it gets the job done. Lather wise, the badger requires so much more loading on a harder soap than any of my synthetics. Still dialing that part in. 2 passes gave me a socially acceptable shave. My focus this month is on lathering with the new badger brush. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
