Thanks Barry. I used my Max Sprecher (Max) for the 600th straight shave. I mistakenly mentioned in a previous post that I was going to use ArtRazor 1000 (Artie) because it was my first custom straight. I meant to say Max and I explained it in today's post.
Artie is my biggest straight at 13/8 inches wide and was my second custom made from the Ukrainian, Mr Kravchenko

    Jillette January

    Razor - 1962 (H1) Gillette Slim (9)
Blade - Gillette 7 O'clock Super Platinum (Black wrapper)
    Soap - Fine Shaving Soap
    Brush - Jayaruh #JR469 Synthetic
    Finish - Stetson

Moving forward by date we go from 1959 to 1962. My H1 Gillette Slim. At one time I had three Slims, but sold two of them to Delta Echo. I'm sure somebody got some fine new and very awesome looking razors after they were done with them. This one is all original, just the way I like my Gillettes, in most cases.

Difference between a Slim and the Fatboy is more than one has a slim handle and the other a fat handle. The handle is longer on the Slim as well, and the head geometry is different. The Fatboy has a bigger head on it which makes some people complain of it being more difficult to use under and around the nose. I wouldn't know, as I've had my goatee for just over 24 years now. The Fatboy is heavier, weighing 78 grams, while the Slim weighs 71. And then there is the blade gap. The Fatboy, at full setting of 9, has a gap of .037 inches, while the Slim is a bit more at .039. Basically they handle a bit differently, the extra weight of the Fatboy adds aggressiveness while the greater blade gap of the Slim adds there. The head geometry favors the Fatboy to be a bit more aggressive.

I spent some time reading forums and discussions from people who have compared them. As always with shaving it ends up being a subjective discussion. Some prefer the lighter, more maneuverable (to them) Slim, some think the shorter and heavier Fatboy does a better job.

Ok, on to the details and I'll keep them fairly short. Slim with a Gillette 7 O'clock from India, Fine shaving soap whipped to a very rich lather with the #JR469, and a two pass shave made for a perfect finish. Stetson A/S for the win with just a slight burn. Very enjoyable and effective shave. My opinion on the Fattie vs the Skinny? Both do the job well. And both are a true joy to use.

Tomorrow we move ten years in the future to the Super-109. The long handled Super Adjustable. Otherwise known as the Black Beauty. Gillette also made a short handled version that I've tried to find a good one for years. Guess what I found today? ;) I hope to have it by early next week to add another classic Gillette to the collection. Have a great Thursday!

    Greetings,

    Early morning shave,

A wonderful shave to finish my shaving week of on a high. The Amazon Solimo blade feels as though it could give a few more shaves but I'll retire it as four 3 pass + pick ups shaves from one blades is superb.

A close comfortable 2 pass + pick ups silky smooth shave with no errors to report.

Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of Cien Men Sensitive ASB.

My face is feeling smooth, & smelling divine.;)

Keep safe, and enjoy your day ladies & gentlemen.

Very good Throwback shave this morning. A minute at the Loading Dock to prepare the Stoylin brush with the Bill Neumann soap. Clean and clear shave everywhere, but for S. Porcupine, but I'll say there was no ADDED problem to yesterday and Monday, perhaps I just should have avoided the redness from those days, which I didn't.You just can't lose with two back-to-back skin friendly products working together(which is what you get with Bill Neumann soap&A.S.). Course the in-shower prep is also skin-friendly, so that makes 3. 2 passes. Most Outstanding.

Thanks Gary, what ever the case maybe it's a great shave cream. In my February focus I intend to use the king C Gillette & Wilkinson Sword TTO/The Edger razors, with WS & Gillette DE blades for my face shaves, using the WS soap bowl and Gillette Skin shave cream.

    January 16 SOTE

    Good evening.

    Rockwell Model T v. 1 (4.5)
Gillette 7o'clock Permasharp DE Blade (2)
    Rockwell Synthetic Brush
Seaforth Sea Spice Lime SS and AS
    Stirling Alum Block
    Personal Care Witch Hazel
    Beard Growth: 32.5 hrs

    20250116_192817.jpg

I didn't want to wait for the morning so I went with a quick, easy shave with the Rockwell T v. 1 razor on setting 4.5. I must admit that 4.5 is still very efficient to take down my 1+ day stubble. I kept this setting because my last shave was very good so why should I change it. I used to go to the max setting on my adjustables, but I find it unnecessary unless I have 3 days growth.
Anyway, I only needed 2 passes for a drama- free BBS result.

I went with the Seaforth Spice Lime setup because I find the fragrance relaxing and I don't need much soap to make an easy, quick and slick lather. Here's my lather:

    20250116_193315.jpg

Did have some alum feedback, but it wasn't uncomfortable. Splashed on the witch hazel and the matching aftershave and I smell and feel great. Take care.
