    Razor: Yaqi Traveler
    Blade: Suneko Amorphous Diamond SS
    Brush: Ever Ready 200T
Lather: Stache Soap Works E Barber
Aftershave: Declaration Grooming/Chatillon Lux La Petite Prairie
    Additional Care:
    Omega Alum

Very nice efficient travel day 2 shave this morning in southern Virginia. Glad to be home after a second day on the road. The shave stick made for a quick and efficient process to the beginning of the shave as well as an easy clean up since I did not have the usual shave paraphernalia (mug/bowl).

Razor - Gillette WW II Tech
Blade - Gillette Platinum Plus tuck.jpg (Brazil) (1)
    Soap - Stirling Sheep
    Brush Jayaruh JR#230

Moving forward in time with each shave I've arrived at a Gillette I had forgotten I had. I bought this razor very early on in my traditional shaving days, probably late 2014. It was an Ebay find that I kind of lucked into. It's a World War II razor, made for the military. Like the 1918 WWI khaki set I used on the 1st, this razor was made to go to war. It's basically a Tech with a bakelite handle, and I'm still trying to figure out the metal on the cap. I don't believe it's brass, but haven't gotten a definitive answer. I do know that the cap should be black, but that finish has been lost on this particular razor over time.

When I acquired this razor it was in horrible shape. Caked in who knows what, it was a time consuming cleaning job. I soaked it in detergent, used a toothbrush to scrub it, soaked it more, scrubbed more, then soaked it in 90% rubbing alcohol and boiled the head to make sure nothing was alive on it. I believe I shaved with it once, hated it, then put it in my box of razors to keep as rare or curiosities. When I rediscovered it a few days ago I knew it needed to be tried again. The manufacture dates on these razors runs from 1938 to 1945 and there were several different razors made for war during that time. One was the ball end Tech, with full brass handle, but the bakelite handle Techs were more the rule, from what I've researched. Lightweight, easy to pack along and nobody cared if they looked rough after being through all of that. I suspect they were seen as more disposable as well. Perhaps that's why they aren't seen much now because the majority were lost or just tossed.

I chose the Gillette Platinum-Plus blade, made in Brazil. Some of us discovered these in Walgreens a few years back and snapped some up to try them. Very smooth blades, sharp, and actually not a bad option for a Gillette blade. Not sure if they can be found anywhere around now, however. I used Stirling Sheep to make sure I had a slick lather in case the razor was as bad as I remembered, using the JR #230 for a great lather.

I'm happy to say that this razor proves, once again, that technique is everything. It sucked the first time because I had no real idea how to use a safety razor. Tonight it was smooth, effective, and produced a perfect finish after two passes and a little touch up on the neck. I did grab my Nivea shave balm for a finish, as my neck is still getting used to shaving every day again. I haven't shaved daily in quite a long time.

Snowmageddon is on the way! Or so they say. Barely snowing right now, but they say we're gonna wake up to several inches with several inches more to go. We shall see. Hope you had a great day!

    05 Jan 2025, Sunday

Dusted off the Wilkinson stick which did just as well as the La Toja

Lovely shave with the Flare tip and the Semogue OC Finest Badger

Day 4 of the Astra showed some blunting, resulting in more buffing than usual and two minor weepers. One was taken care of with the Alum, the other was a bit more stubborn so I had to haul out the old stiptick stick. All good after that, so this was a good start to the Sunday

Trying to fill up my One Blade blade bank: it is really fussy to use, sometimes the blades go in sometimes they get stuck half way. When this is full (-ish) I will go back to using my mint tins. Much easier to use and they take more blades, of all types and sizes

The Guerlain Pour Homme EdP is, for all intents and purposes, sunk

Hoping your Sunday shaves turned out as well or better

    Thank you Joe

    ...and again thanks Joe

Lovely set up. I look forward to the Rose Petal Thayers each time I shave, love the stuff

Very nice Joe, the sticks are a great solution

Classic retro look to the shave. We can forget every now and then, :)

That's cool, nice to see the older razors making a comeback
