    Shaving Recipe for today.

    Prep: Warm shower:/Cien Moisture Shower Gel.

    Pre:
    Cold wet flannel to my face.
    Cien PURE Fragrance Free Sensitive Bar Soap.
    Brush: Yaqi Sagrada Familia 24mm Synthetic.
    Bowl Lather.
    Bowl: Tesco's Ceramic 'Cosmo' Side Bowl.
    Lather: Cella extra extra Bio shaving cream.
    Blade: Gillette Nacet. (D2)
    Razor: King C Gillette.

    Post:
    Cold Water Face Rinse./Cold water face wash with brush squeezing's, /Alum Rub./Cold Water Rinse./Homemade (~Spring/Summer mix~) Lemon, Eucalyptus, Tea Tree, Essential Oils.5 Menthol Crystals Mixed Together With Care+Witch Hazel./Cella Bio Organic Aloe Vera ASL./Bulldog Original Moisturiser.

    Greetings,

    The Cella extra extra Bio shaving cream provided a wonderful lather this vegan version is equally as good to it's tallow sibling and like the tallow version it's slick protective and doesn't dry out and leaving my mature rhino skin type feeling hydrated and smooth. The mild-light fresh & Citrusy ASL is very pleasing leaving a good post shave feel.

    Finishing the shave off with a few small dollops of Bulldog Original Moisturiser.

    My face is feeling super smooth & smelling divine.;)

    Keep safe and enjoy your Sunday ladies & gentlemen.:cool:

    Thanks, Chris, for the comments.

    Yes, the liquid styptic seemed like a great idea, until I realized just how quickly the tube dries out.

    If I were going to get a new badger brush, the Simpson's Chubby 2 Best Badger might be the one I would pick. I understand the knot is packed really full and very tight, with the result that it has superb backbone for a badger. The downside of that, of course, is just what you noticed - being a tightly packed badger knot, it takes forever to clean it and dry it. The Synthetic Bristle version, by contrast, is a snap to clean and dry.

    The chubby handle? Well, you're on your own there - brush handle shapes are strictly YMMV and you either like them or you don't. I wasn't actually too fond of the Chubby 2 handle originally, because it seemed too short, but it has grown on me over the years.

    Great shaves and reports, Chris. I have never tried an Empire razor, but I have tried similar light and cheap 3-piece DEs. I find that razors that are too heavy can be hard to use because they give little feedback and I may press too hard. But razors like the Empire that are too light are worse, because they tend to skip over my stubble in an uncomfortable and largely useless fashion. I get a lot of unpleasant stubble tugging, equally unpleasant "chatter" against my skin, and very little whisker removal. Eventually, I press down hard enough to steady the blade and remove the whiskers - and have a bad case of razorburn afterwards. In fact, they feel worse than shaving with either a multi-blade cartridge or an electric. Just not worth it.

    I have wondered what the new Cella vegan "Bio" products were like. Now I know. Thanks for the info.

    Thank you Joe. I have only one, the Bay rum. Nice scent. I need to spend more time with it to get to know it better

    Wonderful report. Good to know the newer Cella is a top product and suits you. Maybe one day I might indulge myself.

    thanks John appreciate all your insights

    Yup. It was worth a go. I will delegate it to display duties but will use it occasionally. I find that using a not so good item focuses the mind and can help appreciate the better quality ones more.

    I JUST LEARNED the other day that Cella is not pronounced the way I had it("sell-uh"). Embarassing.

    Another nice shave today, repeating with Barbasol/Osage Rub.Again, more cream came out than was planned, but that's OK. Clean clear shave all over, with one exception-NW North Porcupine(directly under the nose). Before coming on here, I made it look better than it was originally. That's a tough area up there-bad place to get a cut, but you don't want to leave any there either. Nice finish from the chilly Osage Rub A.S. No cologne today. Super Duper Outstanding.

    Lather Bowl: None

    The usual Just One July setup - splashes not shown:

    IMG_20240712_002641_2_kindlephoto-1080687.jpg

    It has been hot and muggy here this weekend, and I was deeply tempted by my Stirling Iced Pineapple soap/splash combo. However, I decided to be a good little 30DCer, and I stuck with my trusty Just One July setup for what might be my last shave this month. However, I added the Osage Rub for the cooling menthol/eucalyptus sting and topped it off with the Virgin Island Bay Rum for a different sort of burn. I find the combination gives a long-lasting effect.

    The shave went well today for the now-usual two passes using my new standard pattern of WTG and then XTG everywhere. I find I have much less irritation on my neck now that I have abandoned my previous first ATG pass there. Just proves you can still learn something new doing a Rule or Focus even after years of shaving...

    The injector blade is probably a vintage Schick Plus Platinum but I am not 100% sure about that. Anyway, it was still sharp and smooth on its 8th shave. I shave differently with DE razors and injectors. With DE razors, I "ride the cap" and take short strokes while maintaining light pressure. With injectors, I find I can shave much like with a cartridge razor -- set the blade holder flat on my face and do a single smooth pass all the way from top to bottom or side to side of the area I am shaving.

    Of course, the similarity is not surprising since Gillette obviously stole the Schick injector shape for the first cartridge razor, the Trac II. This is even more obvious when you note the similar method of loading the blade/cartridge - the Trac II cartridges slide sideways onto rails on the handle, much like sliding the injector blade into a Schick.

    I nearly had an unfortunate accident right at the end of my shave: while my hands were still coated with the menthol/eucalyptus Osage Rub, I had a sudden itch down below my waist. Fortunately, just as I was reaching down to scratch that area, I remembered a 30DC alumni who confessed that he did that precise thing with Osage Rub. From that day forth, his TSD handle under his avatar was forevermore "Snowballs"!!!

    Hope the week goes well for everyone after a great weekend!

    Days growth = 1

    Prep = 3 x Hot water soak
    Preshave = Proraso
    Cream/Soap = Sterling Bergamot Lavender
    Brush = the big Omega 10049
    Bowl = timeless
    Razor 1 = Gillette Tech
    Razor 2 = Gillette Tech made in Argentina
    Blade 1 = Lord Big Ben (1)
    Blade 2 = VTG Gillette made in Australia (day 1)

    Passes = 3+
    Post = Usual CWR, Alum, rinse, left over lather to the face, rinse, pat dry, Thayers
    ASL = Old Spice

    Scent = Santal Spirit EdT sandalwood
    Score = 8.8 / 10

    Damage = Minor weeper in one side of the face, easily quenched with cold water

    Blade comparison: Two similar/identical razors with different blades
    One for each side of the face
    I will keep the razors loaded and swap to different sides of the face each day to even out the wear
    Until one blade packs up, deteriorates or otherwise lets me down

    Same soap. Same Prep. Boar brush

    Different post shave stuff to stop me getting bored

    Early days but I may already have an opinion

    Have a great Monday everyone
